Yup...I've got a new Jansport pack that will support that big boy. Really nice bag if you want one on the larger side. Review coming in the next 7-10 days.

The shoulder straps have a special technology that makes them very comfortable and their bottom protection is the best I've seen. The bags look better in person than on their site.

    Which one did you get???
I saw a PC jansport backpack at REI and the laptop fit in it but you really had to work to get it through the opening. It didnt seem MADE for above a 15" screen. The 9100 is 15.4.
I remember the bottom protection being good but it was really a pain to get the laptop in and out cause the opening was only just big enough to scrape it in.
Is there a bigger one then this that you got??

    Thanks for the info

I have the Optimizer and yes, you might have to take the bottom padding out to get your big boy to fit. The width isn't a problem, the height is your issue.

Reminds me of lugging around my VAIO NV190. I use it at home primarily now, but it was great for work. Just a wee tooooo big. Ended up getting a large neoprene cover and found a bag in a local skateboard shop. It actually worked out pretty well. The v505 is easier on my back nowadays and alot easier to whip out.

When I used to carry my Vaio NV190 around (another hulking beast of a desktop replacement), I found it would fit in a standard backpack. My biggest challenge was finding some sort fo case to protect the exterior. For that, I settled on a 15 inch neoprene cover. It was a little snugg for the monster, but kept her scratch free. Youll be hard pressed in finding a padded or hardened carrying case for a computer that large that won't add a significant amount of bulk. Whatever bag you get, make sure it's comfortable. After about 4 months of carrying my NV190 around, my bag said "ENOUGH!!" and I went back to my Toshiba.

I just picked up the Jansport Optimizer and the 9100 fits into it perfectly! You don't need to take out the padding and there is plenty of other pockets for all your other stuff.

Hi, I'm also the proud new owner of a 9100. I have a couple of questions:

    1. My girlfriend will be the primary user of this beast for Autocad. She'll be lugging it back and forth from home to school and I was wondering if any bags fit both the laptop and maybe a text book or two.

    2. Will the bags also have room for that monster of a power adapter?

    3. Could Dell have made the power adapter any larger?!?!?!?!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/tips you offer!

Unfortunatly, the IGO Juice doesn't seem to be compatible with the 9100, or the 8600 come to that. Nor is their ice90. I was really excited for a moment there!

You might think I'm exaggerating when I say this, but I'm not. Think of a red brick. Now, put a plug at one end and a connecter for a Dell computer at the other and you've got the 9100's power adapter. :(

I'm going to look into that backpack. If it's true that it's comfortable and can fit everything that might need to be carried with the computer than it's a no brainer. Looking forward to your review of it!

Yeah, I saw another message you posted and checked the site and saw it wasn't listed. I would still send your power specs to them, it's possible the site isn't updated yet. My particular v505 wasn't listed when I first got it. I reviewed the power specs and it fell within range and I found a power tip to match; so I just plugged it in and it worked. Later I e-mailed them the specs (after a month of using it) and they confirmed it was fine. Probably wasn't the best move, but I was confident I knew what I was doing.

For about a year, I hauled my Vaio NV190 around every day. It has roughly the same physical specs as the 9100 in terms of size and wieght. Had I had the Optimizer when I purchased that machine, I would have stuck with that instead of trading for a Toshiba Libretto...which I traded for a v505 and am finally happy. The review will hopefully be posted soon. The text is done and I'm going to take a few pictures so everyone can see the interior. I had been using the Victorinox WebSak, but with the space that I get in the Optimizer and the comfort of the straps, my WebSak has been sitting in my office cabinent.

I'm looking forward to your review on the Optimizer. Has it been posted yet? I tried finding it in the stores, but didn't see it anywhere. Is there a specific store I should try, or am I going to have to order it online if I decide I like your review?

I uploaded the review this morning and it should hopefully be posted soon. I had noticied a few small things and wanted to edit my review...got to be accurate.

I personally have not seen the Optimizer in stores. It would probably be carried someplace where Jansport is distributed and they sell laptop bags. Give http://www.ebags.com a try. Worse comes to worse, you can always order it online. I think you'll like the review, more importantly, I think you'll also like the bag.

Afterthought: The Optimizer is carried at Ebags. I found it this morning by browsing manufacturers and selecting Business Casual. Their regular price is $99 but it is currently on sale for $79. THe review should appear this afternoon or in the near future.

When the review does appear, where will it be at? I don't really see a link for accessory reviews on the front page.

does anyone know if there is a physical difference between the 2003 and 2004 models? i have seen the 2003 models go for as cheap as 50 dollars.

they both have the ShockShield System and the AirLift system. and both are 1850CuIn. Any clues?

Without physically having it in my hands, the only obvious difference I notice are the colors. This years color schemes are a 'army' green and a crimson like color. The other thing that may be different is I think the Airlift system was revamped for this year. I get that impression from looking at various pieces of promotional material. Other than that, they do look the same....again, w/o physically having it and being able to look at it. I did find this years Optimizer on sale at ebags.com for $79.99. Even though the material says the bag is $120, ebags sells it reguarly for $99.

I just got my Optimizer, and it's a great bag. There is a problem though with it and the 9100. The lap top is too dang big!

Now, don't get me wrong, it fits. And this bag makes it a dream to carry it and it's power brick around. But getting the actual lap top in and out can be a challenge. The reason? The zipper doesn't open far enough. If Jansport would have made the zipper open just another half an inch, it would be no problem. As it is now, if you've got a 9100 you'll have to work to get it inside of the bag. Getting it out is a lot easier and I think with practice it won't be too bad, but don't expect it to be easy!

Excellent bag. I rate it a 3.5 stars out of 4 since they could have made the zipper open just a little bit more to accomodate 15.4 inch displays.

The first time I put my NV190 in the Optimizer, I did do a little tugging and pulling to get it in. When I retrieved it from the bag, I kinda eased the top corner out so the whole top was exposed and then pulled the entire machine out. The subsequent times I put the machine back in the bag, i basically did the same thing; put it in corner first and then eased it on in. A machine that big is a bear to carry around alot. I hope you don't have to deal with that everyday. I picked up the NV190 a year or two ago in hopes that would be my main travelling/office/work machine. It's nice to have a desktop replacement but carrying it around became too much. On top of that, I could never fit the thing in my briefcase bags when I attended meetings. I'm glad you like the bag and hopefully it'll get easier to drop the 9100 in there.
