I was wondering if anyone could give me any suggestions for a backpack I could use to carry my 1420 inspiron with in college.

I need it to be decently sized still in order to carry books etc. I've been looking around but most bags seem to target 15" or 15.1". Would those still be fine or should I find one specific for 14.1" notebooks?

I haven't found a retailer around here that sells decent backpacks yet for me to go try in person, but I'll keep looking..

Look at the Backpack Vs Messenger thread there are a ton of suggestions.. Also look at the sticky.. endless choices there..

If you are looking into a messenger i use the Considerable from Crumbler for my 1420.

Another option is to just buy a nice "sleeve" and use whatever backpack you want. I currently have a Targus that I got for free with my ThinkPad that is nice. I plan on using the sleeve approach in the future because it allows you more flexibility when choosing your bag. Besides, don't they offer color coordinated sleeves with the new Inspirons?

EDIT: Getting a sleeve also allows you to take the lappy without having to take a whole bag.

I know its a bit pricey for a college student, and I know it equates to alot of beer money haha, I would know too, but these are really great bags and sleeves. The quality is awesome!

I have a few backpacks on my shortlist.... Ir really deppends how much you want to spend. At the cheap end, I think I'd go for a Mobile Edge Express, midrange perhaps a Crumpler King Single, and high end a Booq.

Also, that Oakley Flak Pack loos awesome. I'm adding it to my list.

Did you check out Spire? They make great bags. I have had one for over 7 years and it still looks new (took it to Europe and Asia many times on vacation and business trips). I just ordered a new one too!

    Check them out: www.spireusa.com

i personally have just bought a jansport biodiesel, and the Victorinox CS2 Cross Suspension Vertical Computer Sleeve..

from ebags, with a nice coupon that gave me 10% off the bag and free shipping :D

the bag looks great, jansport makes good bags that last a few years, and the sleeve is supposed to be pretty tough, i also got it cause i don't want to carry the backpack when i don't need all the space.

    ---------
bah.. i just did a search for the biodiesel, i bought it for 71.xx jc penny has it for about 60...
