Hey guys, I'm looking for a bag for my 15.4 inch inspirion 1520. I want one that offers good protection and costs under 30 bucks. I don't care if its a back pack or messenger bag, and the weight is not an issue to me. I will be pretty careful with it, and I want the notebook to have its own compartment, so nothing will bump up against it. I don't want to buy a sleeve, and I don't want to have a lot of spare room in the notebook compartment. Anyone know of any bags that fit this description?
-
For under $30 you won't find much other then sleeves. I know targus sells a bag that should fit it for that much that you can get at Best Buy if you wanna get it locally. I have a backpack I am selling that will fit it made by OGIO. If interested PM me on that. Other then that... Hit up newegg, they have a few models under $30.

I'm looking for a bag for my new HP dv9500t. It's difficult to find one online because its a 17" (and widescreen at that). I was thinking about that securepack because its small and safe and all, but it doesnt have too much extra room for maybe a textbook or anything. I'm going to college in the fall so I'm hoping I can find a bag that would accommodate at least one book as well as the laptop and some accessories. I'm only interested in backpacks, no totes or messengers or whatever. I'd prefer anything under $100 that isnt very bulky or an eye soar.
-
I can definitely recommend the 17" carriers from Ogio, I have their Sector Z backpack, and i really like it. I am actually planning on selling this in lieu of a 17" carrier from Ogio because of the accessories I have for my laptop I want the extra storage room. Otherwise I would just keep this one. But I love the build quality, and this bag has been the most comfortable backpack I have EVER owned, and I have had some nice ones. Also I have yet to see them over $100 usually they are closer to the $50 range. I think the metro holds a 17" and is around $65 at my school store, so I am sure it can be had much cheaper online.

I was looking at http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/messenger/laptop-messenger/size/4/ for my new inspirion 1420.. does anyone have one to inform about the actual size of these bags.. Id like to get the small but it says my 14" 1420 wont fit, anyone actually have one they can give some insite to if the dimensions on the website are actually true?
-
Don't do it fercistan! I know exactly what "liquid x" will be doing with that $30. -
actually that is an entirely misconstrued version of my name. It actually came from an adaptation I came up with to a friends business "Liquid Cherry Productions" I didn't want to copy the name entirely, but I liked the whole "Liquid" idea. After the fact it was brought into light the X part being meant something I had no intention of it ever being. But as I still like the name, and it's uniqueness and low likelihood of being copied, although I have ran into that, I still keep the name. If you must know I am actually a student going to school for Nuclear Engineering, in which case I can't afford (both financially and intellectually) to muddle my mind with drugs. The occasional alcoholic drink yes, but drugs, no.
-
Do you mean this bag? or something similar? I was on Ogio's site earlier and all the bags I looked at said "Fits most 15" screens" or something. Their bags are pretty kick ass though, definitely no eye soar.

What?
EDIT- Liquidx please quit pm'ing me about mailing you drugs. I was just joking. -
No the metro only holds to 15" don't know what i was thinking. The IMMIX, URBOE, and the Politan, were all the backpack style bags I saw that are stated as able to hold a 17" notebook. I am seriosly considering the Urboe.

If you can't read it, maybe you should be the one in school...lol I was quite clear with what I said, Leon.

Any actual users out there that can help? -
http://pbzone.com/2007/04/22/review-timbuk2-laptop-messenger-bag/
I found a review on the bag. While it does not talk about the small bag, it is the medium sized bag and the guy said that the medium sized one would fit a 15" macbook or smaller laptop. Given that our laptops are considerably larger then the macbooks, I would guesstimate that you should go with the medium bag. But if any one can give you a real world, "I have tested it" answer then I would definitely go with what they tell you over my suggestions. Second to worst case, is there anywhere near you that sells Timbuk2 bags that you could go check it out for yourself? And worst case being you order the small to find out it won't work, then just send it back and have them send you a medium. Best I can give you. -
I just bought a new ThinkPad T61 14.1'' and I am looking for a new messanger bag.
What do you guys think of the Samsonite L35 or ThinkPad Nylon Case (or any suggestions?)?
Thanks! -
if you don't mind price, crumpler has some really sweet bags.
-
I ordered the 17" messenger bag from Belkin off of the Dell site and I hope it will turn into a very good bag, as for Liquid's supposed drug references... he keeps me warm on lonely forum nights and... this is sounding weird already, but stop with the drug comments please
-
I feel so loved
lol, Lynus is good too, so trust what he says. Oh yeah, Lynus, make sure to send us some pics of the bag for future Dell 17"ers
-
oh yeah, I "should" be getting this bag from Dell as a consolation for their screw ups : http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A1125080
When (if) it comes, I will see what I can do about writing a full review on it, for the benefit of all my fellow NBR users. If you guys are interested I can write a review on my current bag as well, the OGIO Sector Z. Although, since I plan to upgrade to a larger backpack, and this one is not being sold by OGIO anymore, I don't know the usefulness other then you can still order them online. My next backpack will undoubtedly be another OGIO bag as well, and if I see an interest in a review on that I will write a review for it. The only reason I want a different bag is so I can more comfortably use my sleeve with the bag, so I will be upgrading to the 17". Pretty sure I have said that before, but for anyone who didn't read it. -
Your upgrading to a 17" bag or 17" laptop?
-
Well I found out today I shipped... its kinda a weird feeling... I can't quite explain it, but my case did not ship... its finally in the "BUILD" phase however, so its gonna take a week or two for a Vietnamese to sew it together probably, good thing it got free next day shipping
-
CONGRATS LYNUS. I know you've been dying over getting it.
I am upgrading to the 17" bag, for my 15.4" laptop. -
I hope yours ships too buddy, I really wanted the bad for it to come with it, but at this rate i dont think it will oh well, i dont mind i'll see it within a week. I'm going to get some pics up here of the case tho, the belkin 17" in cabernet and jet black. Its the messenger bag not the case, might want to clear that up if i didn't early
-
well hurry up and post some pics of it.
-
I will when i get it, of both the machine and the bag
-
Well. I just read through this entire thread from beginning to end. I'm still torn between a backpack and a messenger bag.
As far as backpacks, I really like the crumpler king single.
As far as messenger bags, I'd go with the timbuk2 laptop messenger. -
It's as ridiculously expensive as it is huge (as big as you can get and still meet carry-on dimensions), but since you are torn between the two types, just wanted to make you aware of this hybrid backpack/shoulder carry bag. Converts by hiding the shoulder straps inside a zipper. Though looks mildly retarded as a backpack, and again- 2700 cubic inches is a little over the top. If it wasn't $170 I'd consider it myself. -
hi im about to get the Mobile Edge Alienware Backpack Black .
is my ASUS z96j going to fit well in it?
anyone know how well the backpack protects a laptop? -
The messanger bag looks cool. Plus if you are 27 like me, you don't look like you are still in college.
I have a nice leather one from Jcrew. It's not this model buy last years but they look the same...

Hmm...I just purchased a messenger bag for my new laptop. A cheap $35 case logic one, lol. I am going to Japan in a few weeks and basically just need something to carry threw the airport.
The reason I chose a messenger bag over a backpack was basically for one reason. I will be carrying a backpack with me also, that will have a book or two, some extra clothes if the luggage gods loose my checked baggage etc. So I didn't want to get a second backpack, and I didn't really want to throw tons of stuff in there with my laptop, both for protection and weight purposes.
I kinda think it depends what you are going to be doing.
I would pick backpack if you are going to bring your laptop to classes with you at a university, walking around campus all day, every day.
I would pick the messenger bag if you bring it to your office, and leave it there until you come home. Or if you are going on a trip and are just using it to carry your laptop threw an airport and not move your laptop around much when you get to your final destination. Most airlines let you carry on one personal item (like a laptop) and a carry on bag (like a backpack).
So what it comes down to imo is what your going to use it for. Are you going to be trekking around a lot with it that if you start doing it everyday your going to need that "hip replacement" or are you going to be carrying it once and a while and most of the time with other luggage or bag?
Personally I like the messenger bag. It allows me to have my own backpack for putting other stuff in, and letting me either hand hold or use a shoulder strap to carry my laptop. Plus, this is a bit of an extra security of mind when you are holding onto your laptop next to you than having it on your back, unless of course the backpack has a lock. So messenger bag is better for me, although I have to admit a backpack would be more comfortable if your going to be carrying your laptop around for most of the day for over a month and don't need to have a second backpack to carry other items.
BTW this is what I ordered. Case Logic 17" Laptop case It is cheap, has some room for other accessories like my digital camera. -
it doesnt seem as if security is a big concern with alot of these backpacks, does anyone have any experience with the pacsafe daysafe 200? http://www.pacsafe.com/www/index.php?_room=3&_action=detail&id=67
i love that i can cable lock it to something , and that it is slash proof,,, i know you could run a cable lock through any backpack , but in that case you could still slash the straps or whatever its secured to.,.,especially in my vehicle in which it could delay a quick smash and grab
Backpack or the Messanger Bag?
