The other day I was checking out the Kensington Contour backpack and found it really nice. It's unbelievably comfortable, nice compartments and pouches. Only things I don't like about it are its large size, price ($85CDN ~$70US), and complete lack of style.

I was pretty well going to buy it tomorrow until i started reading this stuff about Crumpler bags. They look really nice, and seem to be somewhat comfy. Unfortunately if I were to buy one of these bags, it would be sight unseen online. I'm worried about how big it might be (I can't find any pics with it on anyone's backs), and price.

Should I buy the Kensington? Should I take a chance on the Crumpler line?

If it helps, I am looking for a backpack to house my Asus Z71V 15.4" laptop, basic accessories (power cables, mouse), stationary, and enough space for a textbook and binder.

I don't know if you've considered this option at all, but another alternative to a notebook backpack is to buy a notebook sleeve to protect your notebook, then you can just put it inside a regular backpack. Sleeves are thinner and simply add a layer of protection to your notebook. I'm sure if you search around, you can find a good notebook sleeve, or you can check out this place which I personally recommend:
