Okay after some shopping around in the local area I found two backpacks.

The Tumi Tech Flow backpack is pretty **** nice, and **** does it have room inside for books and ****. It supports 17 inches which is god because I had a bit of trouble financially speaking so my purchase of a XPS M1710 has delayed.
However, the Securepack is cheaper, but when I went to look at it in person it's rather small.

I couldn't find a lot of room for books inside once a laptop is inside.
Okay I'm attending Walsh College here in Michigan, it's an expensive private college. Now after running around for the first week, I have discovered I have to carry a lot books. I'm leaning towards the Tumi, but it's **** expensive an d honestly doesn't look at that comfortable, but does provide some comfort. The Mobile Edge however, reminds me of a turtle shell and looks and feels very comfortable.
I dunno. I'm having some difficulty deciding because the Tumi is really nice, and has lots of room, where as the Mobile edge is comfortable and cheaper by nearly a 100 bucks at the store, even more cheap online.

apocalypse:
I fully appreciate your situation in college. I went to a smallish private college University of the Pacific. It was hugely expensive and I was born a poor white child. It can be very difficult to manage all of it...but I can tell you, the size of the college is to your advantage. Smaller classes and better access to your professors proves invaluable later in life. The education will be much more well rounded then at a larger college or university...so, keep at it!
As for your backpack situation. I would go for the Mobile Edge bag. They make EXCELLENT bags. I have looked at many of the Tumi bags and honestly do not think you will get much more for your $$$ in your situation. Another maker of GREAT pack style bags is Eastpak. I have one here that I have used daily for over 6 years. It's still in GREAT shape, holds a 15.4" laptop and enough crap to get ya through the day.
But of the two you show the Mobile Edge bag is the one to get...and buy online. BTW, if there is a Marshalls/TJ Maxx/Ross type store nearby go look at the bags they have. I have run across sleeper name brand bags for around $30 there...it's worth a short if you have the budget issue (and hey who does not have a budget concern these days!!)
Depending on the size & number of books I would look for a bag of at least 2500cc if you really need to carry lots of books everyday. -
here is a link for a site in case you do not already know about it:

When I need a new bag I tend to use eBags to look and see what is out there. -
What type of laptop do you have?
-
He has a m1710, 17incher.

It's what I'm going to purchase. XPS M1710. Mobile desktop. The weight isn't an issue for me, I have lugged around maybe 20-25 lbs in books before when i was originally doing engineering (got burned out), so a full load doesn't bother me.
2.5 Liters I dunno how much that is really in Imperial.
Though yesterday night to avoid a hangover I drank 1.5 litres of water. -
2500cc = you were an engineering major...YOU do the conversion to "cu. in." ..hehehehehe...
If you are going for a higher end notebook like the M1710...get a better bag. I would get a good sleeve for the laptop then find a bag that will allow the sleeve to fit. It might also be nice to find a sleeve that can double as a carry bag for those times when all you want to carry is the laptop.
Do you tend to carry more then you really need? It's a mistake we all can make when the pressures of work/school are getting to us. Or is it just getting to your books between classes is a problem?
I am now using a much larger bag then I usually need but have a nice hard sided sleeve on order that will double as a a carry bag for the laptop. I ended up spending/budgeting a bit about $235 for the two pieces. I really like the stuff from Tom Bihn and I never imagined I would spend that kind of money on a bag. But given the amount of moving around I do every day I really want to protect the new laptops. Plus bteer bags usually come with a better warranty. The Bihn bags have a lifetime warranty from a pretty ethical company. -
Carrying between classes is not the problem. It's the actually amount of luggage space I need, but with this comes comfort and durability. Which is why I'm leaning towards the Tumi because it's a big bag.
Book wise I'll put it like this I have basically two math book sized books per class and one smaller paperback book.
Well I have block scheduling. Monday I have my Econ which is four books plus the notebook within a binder. Tuesday I have Business Communications which is 3 books and again binder and notebook. Wednesday I'm hungover all day and I do my homework. Then Thursday morning I have Statistics which is one big book and one larger workbook, plus a binder with lots of paper. Then 6 hours later I have a Legal and Ethics course which is three books, a study guide, and a binder encasing a notebook. You may find it odd I have so much literature for only four classes.
My school technically has five semesters a year. 4 nine-ten week semesters and 1 eight week semester in the summer.
As it is I'll have two Bachelors degrees by the end of 2007 and will have started on a Masters all before I'm 22, if all goes well.
