this is kinda a extension of another post ...
but i just bought a new laptop and do alot of traveling in and out of airports and ect... and i was out looking for a case for it . just about bought a briefcase standard laptop bag for it .. but then i started thinking .. I am a casual dresser and have no real need for the "briefcase" look .. and i feel that the computer briefcase draws attention to you .. if someone was out to steal a computer or snatch a bag . more likely to go for the guy with the "computer case"
so i found a Kensington computer backpack .. to the average person i dont think you take a look at it and say " laptop" .. its just a backup that you can use backpack like or over the shoulder .. what does everyone think about this theory of mine ..

Which kensington did you get?
I got one and love it, it was the only one I liked for a 15.4" widescreen.

I'm not much of a briefcase guy myself. If I were a businessman giving an important presentation or carrying a lot of documents around with me, then yes I'd want a briefcase. And I'd watch it like a hawk.
But I'm a college student. I wear jeans, a t-shirt, and a baseball cap everywhere I go. It would look pretty weird if I was carrying a briefcase around I imagine. -
yep same one ..
the "laptop" section fits very snug .. but a little portion of my lappy is still showing ..
and i dont want anything to possibly scratch it or whatever.. so thats what i was thinking of just putting it in the "sleeve: and then just slipping it in the bags main section . .and using the laptop section as the place for the charger and ect..

The one i got was 39.00 bucks at comp usa ....
....
it fits a 15.4 screen .. it is the model that does not have the junk drawer on the bottom.....
but it seems to me that it is going to work pretty good ..
the only thing i cant decide on ..is to use the "laptop" section .. or just use the "sleeve: that i have and then slip the laptop in the bag... what do you think .. does it matter
i am not a college student anymore .. but i still wear jeans, shorts , hat .. LOL .. young 27 year old i guess...LOL -
Probably the same one I have. No junk drawer, but two drink pouches, and 2 front pockets + the main pocket.

huh, mine fits all the way in, and I use those inside mesh pouches for the charger and such.

I'm a backpack person myself...just need the extra room. I've tried briefcase style bags and and the biggest obstacle is that I don't have enough room to carry all of my gear. The other issue is the shoulder strap; it's more comfortable to have to straps plus if one shoulder gets tired, you can always just use one strap.
As far as theft goes, I think you have a equal chance of getting your gear stolen no matter what type of bag you use. A thief will pretty much take whatever they see, the gamble is what is in the bag. Personally, I always keep my bag on me. Especially in these times of terrorism, no one can afford to have their bag blown up because it's sitting somewhere. When it comes to appearances, you can remain professional with a backpack. I recently picked up the Victorinox WebSak which is a black knapsack with a very professional look to it.
Overall, knapsacks are the way to go.
Backpacks vs. breifcase style
