I moved your thread in the hope that you'll get a better response.

You do realize that the battery present in laptops generally makes a UPS unneeded, right?

Do a forum search. This topic has been discussed hundreds of times.

Personally, I don't care for APC products. They set the float voltage too high which kills the batteries fast. The battery in an APC will last only 2 or 3 years at best, while the exact same battery in a Tripp Lite or other brand will last 5 or 6 years. APC does this intentionally, to get extra revenue from selling replacement batteries. Shoddy engineering? Or a scam? You decide.

Well another reason behind APC's high float voltage is to squeeze a little more runtime out of the battery. I'm not saying it's right but that's another reason why.

I found a bunch of old APCs first thing I do is I check all the voltage and readjust the charge and float.

It does kind of. I suppose it also depends how long your outages are. If your typical outage is 6 hours, a UPS might make a lot of sense. An hour or two of UPS time + few hours of laptop battery time.

I like UPS for the voltage regulator they provide when in operation. You know that you are getting the cleanest power to your electronic devices.

I was thinking of getting a UPS, even though I'm going to have a laptop. It would prevent any issues with my external hard drive and I won't have to worry about having to keep setting the time on my TiX clock.
