I haven't fully decided on what computer I am going to buy it's either the p7010 of the s6231, but when I buy I need a bag. (back pack or messenger. In addition I'm going to put my laptop in a sumdex sleeve.

    Any recommendations.

    My requirements would be:

    Messenger bag or backpack
    under $100
    light as possible
    more padding the better
waterproof (or at the very least resistant to ridiculously heavy rain fall).

look is important also but since everyone has different tastes I'll field all suggestions and look at them as they are suggested.

    Thanks.

My favorite option is the Dicota Rain bag that I have, but it's still not being sold in the US from what I understand. Jansport makes a really nice bag too with the best shoulder padding I've seen.

Are bags by Ortlieb any good? I looked and all their bags are waterproof but they don't specifically seem to be built for laptops.

Not familiar with them. Check some of the other backpack threads as well.

let me know if you ever find a good waterproof bag, living in FL it would be nice to have one.

right now i use my samsonite bag and carry a small garbage sleeve, if it rains while i am out, i will super wrap my laptop.

I'm going to probably pick up an Ortlieb bag. It's a bit risky as they are a little pricey and they don't really cater to notebooks. I'll submit a review of it after I use it for a while.

I've been using a Victorionox WebSak for over a year now and have been very happy with it. It's large enough to accomadte up to 15 inches, and accomadtes the P series just fine.It includes a hardened laptop sleeve which is removable. It is somewhat water resistant, although, I sprayed it down with 3M and that had no negative effects on the material. A little expensive, but a solid bag!!

Check out the bags made by or for Mountain Equipment Coop (MEC) They're well made, well padded, comfortable -- and with a head office in Vancouver and a mountaineering heritage, the company makes things pretty waterproof. I'm not sure if they'll ship out of Canada though.

    Go to:

    http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_main_packs.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=675941&bmUID=1110653521358

then follow the links to activity packs, lifestyle packs, and shoulder bags.

I ended up picking up an Ortlieb Sling It. Apparently, Ortlieb is the only manufacturer that actually makes waterproof bags that can pass for regular city use (from my searches anyways).

I should have it by next weekend. If I have time, would anyone here like me to submit a review. I have a digital camera to provide pictures also.

I got the ortlieb bag today. However, I cannot review it just yet since I am exchanging for the larger size.

    I'll post first impressions:

Yes, it probably is waterproof and there is a laptop section. The small (which I initially got) is perfect for a 13.3" screen. However, the padding is quite poor (although, I feel the padding in moat bags are poor) so you will need a sleeve or something for protection. That means don't buy the small size unless you have a 10.6" or smaller.

When I get the new bag I will post a complete review with pictures.

I am actually quite happy with my purchase. I'll post a review once I use it for a few days.

I'll also post a review of the InCase sleeve I have been using for the past 2 weeks (coincidently it works in perfect tandem with the Ortlieb sling it I purchased).

And this may be a bonus to some, the bag is made in Germany.

black targus bag fer 15.4" notebook

well i finally got the targus bag... it wuz handpicked from my dad and uncle, it fits my 15.4" toshiba m45 notebook very2 well. Other than that it has a load of pockets around 5 or 6, u basically can put everything inside. I think for a student with lots of things to carry around and easily lose, this bag is pretty neat cuz i got to keep evrything nice and tidy... though i must admit it ldoesn't look that pretty... oh well gotta sacrifice beauty for brawn...
