I know pretty much nothing about laptop bags.

I'm looking for something that would be a relatively snug fit - I have a large messenger bag that could hold 5-6 laptops, I have one and use it every week. But sometimes it's overkill. I'm not looking for a sleeve, I need some additional storage. "Professional" appearance not necessary, Timbuk2/Crumpler or similar are fine, leather is fine, fabric is fine, obnoxious colors on the outside are bad, bright colors inside are good though certainly not necessary (I tend to lose things!). Less padding is preferred (though some is fine), inexpensive is preferred. I don't have a budget for it, and may not be buying for a while, so if there's something that seems perfect for $90, I can hold on, likewise, if something seems good for $30, I'll jump all over it.

    Desired amount of space:
    x220
    charger
    mouse
    kindle
    a few cables

A bit more than that is fine. A lot more than that and I may as well use my big bag.

The Crumpler skivvy looks about right - a little bigger than ideal, but it's pretty close to what I'm looking for:
    Skivvy (S)

    This looks good, too:
Amazon.com: STM Bags dp-4001-01 Vertical Small Laptop Shoulder Bag, Fits Most 13-Inch Screens, Black: Electronics

Anyone have any experience with bags that they can recommend?

    Teff,
I carry exactly what you wanted to (mine is a Kindle DX though) plus a portable hard drive, a small notebook, some pens and pencil, a Blackberry charger, key chain, wallet and an iPod classic and found the perfect fit in a Tumi Zeppelin backpack.
Your Kindle does need a case to be safe in the backpack though.
It's kinda expensive and the build quality doesn't seem to match the price but it's still a well built product and I'm very happy with it function wise.

PS: ah, in case you want to get that Tumi backpack, try coupon code TUMI10 to get 10% down on the website price, at least it compensates for the tax. This code worked for me.

Thanks for the info - definitely more than I was looking at spending but it looks like a pretty good option, too. If only I could see one in person!
