I am looking for a laptop bagpack but I am confused about assessing the capacities from the dimensions of the bagpack

    Currently I have this bagpack

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938131&pf_rd_i=507846

According the the product specs, its' capacity is 33L which I can calculate from the dimensions itself.

I was looking at buying this

    http://store.apple.com/us/product/TU990LL/A

According to its dimensions, it's capacity should be about 50 litres yet in the product specs it is stated as only 1404 cubic inches which corresponds to about 25 liters

Can anyone explain to me why ?

    Thanks

Well I normally figure its because the bag is not a perfect rectangular prism, so you cannot find the volume simply by multiplying the HxWxD together. I'm not exactly sure why the Swissgear backpack is off by so much, but it could be because it is less square-like and instead shaped like a wedge, which would effectively cut the volume in half.

could it be the amount of padding they use in the bag?
i don't know how much padding the columbia bag has... but there's padding in the side walls, the back padding and the laptop padding...

also, like what swissgear does, if you add lots of compartments to increase the "utility" of the bag... you loose out on the volume...

but yea, it is a lot less...

he meant backpack... i'm sure you understood it, despite the error, in context its easy to understand what he's talking about...

the internet is a much friendlier place if we are more tolerant to "imperfections"...

    just my 2 cents.

I meant backpack. I am sorry. I am looking for a laptop backpack with a very huge internal volume, about 35-40 litres of internal volume. Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Although I'm not sure of the exact volume. Booq ( www.booqbags.com) sells what appears to be some massive backpacks.
