My SteelSeries 3H USB recently broke, and although I think I may be able to fix it, I should probably look to get a new one anyways. I don't have a large budget, so I'd like something under the $40 range (I bought the 3H on sale for $30).
I've been looking at a lot of headsets online, but I want something that at least matches the sound quality of the 3H. Something with a good equalizer and bass so I can adjust it if I want. I don't care much for the mic, so it doesn't have to be top notch or anything. Just the sound![]()
I'm not sure if this is in the right section, but since it's a gaming headset I guess I'll just put it here...
Thanks!

You know im in the market for a headset too, but I prefer it comes with a mic. So I would like to know as well.

Creative Fatal1ty Headset from BB, or Frys Electronics. I've gotten them for as cheap as $20 on sale, and they are a nice quality headset that don't hurt your ears, good sound quality too. They come in both headphone jack and usb flavors so be careful that you grab the right one!

Well I'd like a mic but it doesn't have to be a great mic
-
My vote goes to the Plantronics GameCom 377. I paid $50 for it a year ago, and now you can get it for $30.

It is widely considered to sound much better than its price point indicates, and I agree 100%. I was very impressed with mine.
@AznImports602, "headset" is generally understood to mean something that includes a microphone. Without a mic, they're called "headphones".

lol, well yea I referring to the original thread starter saying how he doesn't want a mic.

Never said I didn't want one... just said I don't need a high quality one. -
Either way, no worries about quality on the 377...sound quality is great both coming out through the headphones and in via the microphone.
-
i got the steelseries siberia neckband and love the sound quality...not in your price range, i was just trolling in to supprt steepseries SQ
-
If you really want high quality sound, go for a real set of headphones with a mic. Headsets can't compete.
-
Generally inadvisable, especially at this price range. At $40 you're not going to find a dedicated pair of headphones and a separate microphone that will sound any better than a $40 headset. Besides, most people who do this get one of those god-awful Zalman clip-on mics, and if you do that, you're better off just not talking at all.
-
I'll bet that the JVC HA-RX700s sound better than any gaming headset in the same price range. They're $34 on Amazon.

The Zalman mics seem like they get good reviews. I haven't used one, so I wouldn't know. -
I have the HA-RX900 ($55), and it's a good pair of headphones, but they don't sound better than my $50 (at time of purchase) GameCom 377, nor my $80 Razer Carcharias, at least not in terms of gaming audio. They're more balanced for music, but you don't buy a gaming headset with a mic for music, and you don't buy music headphones for gaming, unless all you're playing is Guitar Hero and Audiosurf.
And I play with several people who use Zalman clip-on microphones, and they sound awful. Voice comes through okay, but they pick up an unbelievable amount of background noise. It sounds like people are talking from on board an airplane. -

I see two types on Amazon, the Plantronics GameCom 377, and the link you gave me. Is there a difference? -
That link I posted is the GameCom 377. I'm not sure why it isn't identified as such on that page, but that's definitely what it is.

I recently grabbed a pair of Gamecom 367s for gaming, general use.
The sound quality is excellent, they are really comfortable, and well built
The mike is also really clear, and isolates background noise somewhat too.
I got them more expensive here (~$60), but these are the best gaming headphones available here in Riyadh for this price range
The only difference between this and Shroom's are that the 367 are closed-ear
Not an audiophile so I don't know what the difference is
BUT bear in mind, closed ear really cut you off from your surroundings, which is a plus for most people but not for me
Hope this helps -
is there some... review site for headsets? besides cnet?
i'm looking for closed ear with mic, less than 100$ (cheaper = better!
)
any suggestions anyone? -
Gamecom 367
I gave a description in my previous post
I think you can get it for 40-60$ -
I use a Logitech G35 for gaming if I need a mic, it works fairly well and great for computers without a decent sound card. If I don't need a mic, I use the Sony MDR-7506 for gaming and everything else, mainly for listening to music and the comfort. I also have the Steelseries Neckband headset but I no longer use it because the mic broke and it hurts my ears after a long session of gaming because they rest on top of the ear in order to stay on.

I got a cheap heaset which also comes with a microphone. You can check:

I am satisfied with it as it's a Stereo Headphone, and I always using the microphone for online talk, gaming ect. It's lightweight and comfortable to use.
