Like, $20 or less? Preferably stylish, but looking more for functionality than looks. I already have a laptop bag, so do I need this? Or should I just stick with the bad? Thanks guys!!!

you are not going to get much real protection from a sub-$20 sleeve unless it is on a year end clearance sort of deal.
-
Agreed. The bag should be enough to protect your laptop, but it all depends on how careful you are with your bag. I personally use a sleeve because its slightly safer. It'll at least prevent scratches, plus it'll hold extra accessories.

If ya want a nice inexpensive sleeve, go find a nice towel and either just wrap it around the outside of the laptop before putting it into the bag...or sew on up yourself. Even if ya don't know how to sew it would be a really fast and easy thing...better if you can get access to a sewing machine.
But really a towel is not a bad thing to try...it's cheap at somewhere like Ross...hey, while there you might actually check and see what places like Ross, TJ Maxx or Marshall's has...even if you have a Nordstrom Rack (the outlet not the main store) nearby you might find a NICE deal for a simple sleeve. -
good idea anyway... -
hehehehehe...I was only half joking...
-
hahaha... no kidding but it was really a good suggestion very chief indeed.... now i will buy a towel worth $50.LOL

I put together a sleeve (with the help of a tailor) made out of corduroy material.
The material worked out to ~2USD and I lined it internally with white pillow case material.
Fits my HP dv2122 perfectly. The only reason I built this sleeve is for it to serve the purpose of not scratching the notebook lid when inserting it into my Manhattan Portage bag. -

The towel idea is quite good. I mainly test 17" laptops for this site, and while I have a bag that fits them, I don't have a sleeve. I wrap them in towels as an alternative but never thought to sew up the edges. I'll do that next time, thanks for sharing.
If you want the best sleeves you can buy (in my opinion), you can take a look at WaterField Designs:
http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2688
They're about double what you wanted to pay for the base sleeve without any accessories like a strap, but the quality is insane. -
Wow. I so want that Waterfield sleeve. Maybe when I see it for a 3rd time, it'll be 3rd time lucky for them and they'll get a customer lol
Personally, I have a cheap Targus sleeve. I then put that into a backpack. I regard a sleeve as only to prevent scratches and light accidents, e.g. liquid spills -
Hmm..never thought of using towels. Interesting idea! -
what size notebook do you have? i think booqbags.com is still having their closeout on sleeves....
-
15.4". booq's sale is quite odd. The 17" sleeve and the 12" sleeve are only $4.99 (an amazing deal). The 15" sleeve is $54.95 though *sigh*.
Although...check this out...these are the specs for the 17" PowerBook sleeve:
Laptop Compartment: 15.4"x10.2"x1" (391x259x25mm)
My laptop is 1.0” - 1.69” (H) x 14.05” (W) x 10.12” (D)
Would that fit perfectly?! If so, I'm one lucky son of a gun.
Edit:
The sleeve is only $15 shipped. I'm tempted to order it and if it fits, I'll use it for something else. $15 for a booq bag shipped in incredible.
SHOULD I GET IT?!?!Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -
You dont need a lot of money to get a decent sleeve. I picked up a ZeroShock III case for $20 plus shipping. That is great value.

Look at this thread which one I prefer.

The Zero Shock III sleeves are also available from www.shinza.com , but costs more there I think. Seen them on Amazon and Ebay as well.
Best (cheap) laptop sleeve?
