Look at the Enermax Aeolus CP001, there is a review in my signature.

The only problem is the laptop will hang off the back and sides of the cooler, but only by 1/2 inch and under. Its fully secure. To see what i mean look at the review, under the Laptop Compatability/Position Section.

Read the cooler buyers guide Link in sig, it will tell you what you should look for and how to get the best results. Generally the Zalman NC2000 and NZXT are popular for 17 inchers

Seconding the NZXT CRYO. Its a beast. Heavy, expensive ($70), but it moves alot of air and does its job really well. The most important thing is that you choose a cooler that fits your computers vents.

In one test, the Aeolus CP001, cooled all computer components total by 58 degrees. 22 on both CPU cores. Read my review for more stats and info.
