    Hello there,

Anyone would recommand a best 2.1 speaker system for music and movie as well?

The singer and music style I listened most are Elton John, Celine Dion, so not really some grooving music but I need a really groovy woofer for movie.

The speaker set I most tempted are Hi-Vi Swan M50W, but it doesn't available around UK....
Some other "gaming" style speaker set like Crosair SP2500 also have good review but pretty sure their mid-high won't as sweet as M50W

    so..... anyone has idea?

    Cheers!

get some active 2.0 speakers, thats the best for that kinda music. Later you can get a subwoofer as well

Hi mate, i was about to recommend you the Swan m50w, and saw that it's already being considered by you :D You've got taste brother! Definitely get the SwanM50w if you can lay hands on it. I went to test the m50w and corsairSp2500, me and my friend were blown away by the clarity of the acoustics! Bass sounds extremely STRONG yet not too punchy, mid and highs are not overly exaggerated compared to the corsairsp2500.

Good to know someone like M50W too :)

Do you know where I can get a pair of it in UK (or Europe), or even US?

The Audio Energy AEGO M 2.1 speakers are very good speakers from a good 'speaker maker'. These get excellent reviews. Can be found either 2nd hand or new for around £130.

    hello,

i'm considering investing in a budget 2.0 or 2.1 speaker setup, but i'm wondering if i'll be getting the most out of the system if they're connected to my laptop which features a Sound Blaster Compatible 3D Audio sound card. am i going to need to invest in a new sound card as well if i invest in a decent speaker setup?

    Quick answers for you:

    1) If you want incredible 2.1 speakers for the money, buy a set of Klipsch Promedia 2.1's and forget about it. By far, one of the absolute best values for sound quality that you can get for the money. The best way to buy these is to find them used / refurbished (on eBay or Amazon Marketplace) for about $70 - $80. That will save you a tremendous amount of money over the price of new speakers for $180.

    2) No, you don't need to invest in a sound card quite yet. If you are on a budget, focus on speakers (or headphones) first. A good set of speakers (or headphones) comprise of about 90% of the audio quality you can get. A dedicated sound card only accounts for about 10% of the audio quality.

fantastic. thank you so much for that.
i'm quite intent on someday purchasing the clevo w230st 13".
i just bought me a viewsonic on the cheap.
as a used/refurbished unit, this would be a fantastic purchase along with it.

should i take from your message that it would be unnecessary to pay up $99 to get a
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro THX 24-bit External USB Sound Card
rather than just sticking with the Sound Blaster Compatible 3D Audio that is included?

also, i find it unbelievable that an audio system that dates backs more than 10 years could have this much staying power.
but even the recent reviews i'm seeing come to the same conclusion. incredible value.

    You are correct.

My suggestion would be to just buy the laptop and use the onboard sound. If you decide that you want to upgrade the audio later, you can always buy it as an aftermarket part on Amazon or NewEgg (and for less than the $99 that you would be charged by the laptop vendor). Personally, I hate external USB sound cards with 13.3" laptops, because carrying around a bunch of external accessories destroys the portability aspect of owning a 13.3" laptop in the first place.

    thanks again.
    i just realized something:
    the monitor i bought -- the viewsonic vx2450wm -- doesn't feature a headphone jack.
so, even if i am utilizing the monitor through a hdmi/dvi cable, would i still be able to just connect the klipsch system to my laptop headphone jack and still get the sound?
    really appreciate all the help.

Correct. You would connect the speakers directly to your laptop headphone jack.
