Hello,
I am looking for a good BT Keyboard/mouse combo for my laptop (HP DV7T) and wanted some input. I think right now I have it narrowed down to the several Logitech offerings (MX 5000, 5500) and Microsofts 7000, but am open to suggestions.
I plan on maybe getting back into gaming with this new laptop so I want the combo to be responsive and reliable. From my research people seem to be saying that the MX 1000 is a better gaming mouse than the MX Revolution. Is there a reason for this? Are "ergo" mouses just not considered gaming friendly (I have never had one, but I do often surf the web, etc.) And does anyone know how Microsoft's mouse compares to these two?
Thanks,

I find the MX1000 to be more precise than the MX Revolution. Also the Revolution is a bit harder to control since it is held differently.
I still like the Revolution better than the MX1000 though, mainly as a work mouse. The feet on my MX1000 and my roommate's were both uneven so it tilts a bit. Gets kind of annoying the the MX Revolution is easier to hold. -
Also I guess I should mention my hands aren't particularly big in my opinion. Is the MX too big? And whats different in the mx5000 and 5500 keyboards?

MX5500 comes with the bluetooth MX Revolution and the MX5000 comes with the bluetooth MX1000. The keyboard IMO is a bit nicer on the MX5500 as well.

And from my research I guess another option would be the DiNovo Media Laser Keyboard/Mouse set, from reviews I have seen people seem disappointed with the MX 5000s keyboard. And some people where saying the MX Revolution isn't the most accurate in fast movements?
I am thinking that Microsofts 8000 is probably too expensive, but if it is worth the money (it is significantly better than the 7000 and Logitechs offerings) I would definitely consider it.
So any more opinions?
Thanks

EDIT: And just for reference my old mouse I am used to was the MX500 (I used to play competively BF42 and little BF2 just fine with this mouse) -
I have a MX5000 set and love it. I don't know why people would hate on the keyboard, I haven't had any issues and just changed batteries for the first time in over 3 months. If gaming is your priority this is you best choice because of the mouse. I can't comment to much because I prefer a gamepad though. The revolution just wasn't designed for that. I am sure the keyboard in the MX5500 is better, it should be since it is newer and much more expensive. For $80 I couldn't be happier with the set.
If you are considering the Microsoft set make sure you go to best buy or somewhere and try it out. I was considering it as well but I could not get used to the curved keyboard. -
Okay I pretty much am trying to decide over these SEVEN combinations now.
Logitech diNovo Edge + Microsoft Laser Mouse 8000 (or is there a better Bluetooth standalone mouse for gaming?)
+Great keyboard with good media options (my laptop is going to be used for a lot of TV watching, recording, video playing, etc. so maybe this is a perfect match?)
-But is this keyboard bad for gaming?
Logitech diNovo Media Laser
+Good keyboard that has good media options and includes the more gaming friendly (?) MX 1000 mouse
-Keyboard not as good as the Edge (?) and also not too good for gaming?
Logitech MX 5500 Revolution
+Mouse (MX Revolution) has lots of neat interesting gadgets but they focus on office use utilities (which isn't bad because I will be using the mouse to do school work and surfing)
-Keyboard is not so good, mouse not good for gaming (and I have never used an ergometric mouse...)?
Logitech MX 5000
+Mouse (MX 1000) is more suitable for gaming than the Revolution, but then I will be losing out on the Revolution's great office utilities?
-Keyboard even worse than MX 5500s
Microsoft Desktop 7000 or 8000 (haven't fully researched these two yet...)
I would also just like to emphasize what I plan on doing...
I will be doing extensive school work on the laptop, media (watching movies/TV, recording, etc.) and web surfing/computer navigation (I am someone who usually has 3-4 explorer windows up each with5-6 tabs when I surf the internet, I am a big multitasker). However I also think I may plan on getting back into gaming (I used to play competitively in BF1942 and when BF2 first came out) and do not want to be hampered by my equipment. But I also do not know if I am overrating how hampered I will be by the "non"-gaming equipment. In the past I played with a Logitech MX 500 and never had a problem with it, so maybe I am being too finicky now? I guess I am kind of out of the loop with all the specialty gaming mice and keyboards they offer now. I also do not plan on getting back into competitive gaming, I just plan on going online and playing in open servers. So considering how much I multitasking I do and the purposes I plan on using the laptop for can anyone give me their input?
Thanks a lot, right now I am just getting overwhelmed (as you can see I am not good at decision making... don't ask me how I was able to pick a laptop!)

PS: Right now I am really thinking that the DiNovo Edge is looking quite nice, do you think it would be a perfect fit for me considering I want to use the laptop to watch a lot of movies and things (but once again I do not want to pick it up if it is "bad" for my gaming experience)? And do you know any other good options that I could pair it up with other than Microsofts Laser Mouse 8000 (which seems to be getting mixed reviews?... is the 8000 a better gaming mouse than the MX1000 anyways? Or does the MX1000 have any advantages over the 8000?) -
And what about in the future, does anyone know if a new generation of BT keyboards and especially mice have been announced or are expected to arrive?
Thanks,
-AndrewCK -
Ok I think maybe I will go all out and either get the Wireless Laser Desktop 8000 from Microsoft, the Logitech diNovo Edge + Microsoft Laser Mouse 8000 (or if there is a better mouse... I wish they offered the Revolution BT then I would definitely get that combo), or the Logitech MX 5500 Revolution. Does anyone know how the Wireless Laser Desktop 8000s keyboard compares to the diNovo Edge? Since 8000 is from Microsoft does it have more features for Vista specifically?
Thanks again,
-AndrewCK -
I just went thru the EXACT same situation as you. I even made up the same combos in my head lol. I ended up going with the Logitech MX5500 mostly because I could get it for 110 bucks brand new yesterday off of www.tigerdirect.com . I also found the dinovo edge brand new for 85 dollars on amazon, and you CAN get a BT revolution or BT microsoft 8000 off ebay for about 30 bucks, but thats more expensive than the MX5500 combo. If you want a link for the 85 dollar amazon, just PM me. You need to buy it before aug 11.

Anyone know if a new wave of BT mice will be coming out soon or have been announced. Or how do announcements like that work? Are there trade shows coming up that things like that usually occur at or do the companies just announce them at their own discretion?
Thanks,

Where did you find a BT MX Revolution for sale by itself? I havent see any online and any on Ebay. It only comes in the MX5500 package.
