I figured this needed to be posted.

At work I'm at the computer all day (engineer), and my wrists and shoulders were hurting. So i checked in our database what other mice I could order.

One of them that popped up was the Evoluent VM4 Vertical Mouse.

It looked strange, but great reviews so I gave it a shot. Now over 6 months, and I can honestly say my shoulder problems are way better, my wrist doesn't hurt as much. It's a great investment if you are a computer user all day long. Look into it!!

I liked it so much, I got one for home!

Very interesting, a bit pricy but probably well worth the effort if it helps health wise.

How do you find it when you end up in situations when you don't have your ergonomic mouse available? Is it an odd feel if you end up using other people's mices often?

Not so much, if anything when I type I feel strange since my hand is now rotated down, instead or neutral.

If you look at body diagrams (anatomy), you will notice the two bones in your forearm are separated in parallel when you are in the hand shake position (or running forward). It's how evolution made us . . . when you rotate down to type or use your mouse the bones cross over eachother. Causing the shoulder to brace it, and soreness in your forearm.

But for the most part, we use our mouse for 80% of tasks instead of typing out everything. So for me, its great, it eliminates a few hours where my hand would be rotated down.

It became really apparent to me after I had forearm / wrist surgery for a motorcycle accident. This thing this worth it's weight in gold. Give it a shot!

I've used this at a friend's house who has carpal tunnel syndrome. Definitely feels nice, although I didn't spend enough time with it to get used to it. I might consider getting one if they made one with 3,000+ DPI and 1,000Hz polling. :p

It does have a controls underneath (i'm not sure the scale). I'm an engineer, it works great at work for cad/cam.

    It says 1200 dpi btw.

Have seen these for a long time, so probably means other brands make them and may be found cheaper.

    Just search for "vertical mouse"

I used to use the vmouse1 (circa 2007) and can testify to its sturdiness - If my M$ Trackball explorer ever dies I will go back to it.
