Can anyone give me a good external hard drive that doesn't have to have external power? Higher capacity, the better.

There is an AC adapter. Thanks though!

I was actually thinking something in the 320GB-500GB range. I don't really need 1 TB, I guess the "bigger, the better" was slightly deceptive.

the 2.5" external drives are almost all USB-powered. the 3.5" external drives all have AC plugs. so that's all you need to know, basically :)

Another option is get an enclosure and then you can use an old drive or replace your current notebook drive with a larger and/or faster one and then buy an enclosure for the old drive. I did this and bought an Adaptec enclosure and it comes with a USB cable that runs off a single USB if it is powered and has a second USB connector in case the USB is not powered enough.
