I'm kind of suspicious of fanless coolers and would like to see what you guys think about 'em. I've really only heard of a few can't remember their names but do these type of coolers really work? If so which one of them do you suppose is best for cooling? I really like the idea of them and would love something fanless that can cool my notebook. :D

i think the only thing fanless coolers just raise the back of your pc a little bit, to increase the airflow?

There is the Thermaltake iXoft, but I don't know how well it performs.

I looked up the ixoft one and it looks pretty cool, but how well does it perform? I haven't found any reliable sources for perfomance.

From all reviews I've seen, the Thermaltake product performs very well, taking off up to eight degrees.

8 degrees seems impressive for a fanless cooler, true? If so, this is proboly the best fanless cooler out there right?

Ok, so I just read this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=103048

is seems that if I got this it wouldn't work sufficently unless I took it off every so often to let is cool, I like to just leave my computer on 24/7 and I think it would be a pain to keep up with something like that...would it still cool even maybe a little without taking it off every once in a while?

I have a W3J and the air intake is on the bottom. I'm assuming the ixoft and similar fanless cooling products wouldn't work since the air intake would be blocked?

So now I'm stuck between the ixoft, zalman, lapcool4, and the spire pacific breeze... :(

    ixoft

no noise, great for lap use, extremely portable, mid-price range

    zalman

noisy, ok lap use, pricyish, not extremely portable

    lapcool4

not sure about noisiness..., good lap use, ok price, portable

    spire pacific breeze

very cheap, noisy, not very good lap use, nice portability

Out of these what do you guys think is best for a 15.4" notebook?

I don't mind portability or noise really, price not so much either as long as it is worth it so it comes down to performance and lap us basically really, lol

For stationary use the best cooler in my opinion is the Spire Pacific Breeze. It pushes a lot of air and is very effective. I found that you can reduce the sound level by putting a pencil under the back of it behind the rubber pads.

i dont get how xpad helps on reducign heat or cooling your laptop. all i know is it gives your laptop a bit of clearance on the bottom thus increasing airflow.just like the "bottlecap" technique. :D

How is the Zalman used on your lap?

It looks good for use on the desk but I'm a bit worried about the lap usage...

The Zalman is bassically like a box that you just set on your lap and it has a laptop on top of it, but this box cools your notebook well ;)

I like the iXoft because it would be possible to throw it in a brain bag or ID bag, yeah?

    Impressive:

If you're still interested in fanless coolers, you might want to check out the iLap. I will be getting this for my Macbook Pro...but they sell iLaps for PC notebooks too. http://www.raindesigninc.com/ It looks comfy :)
