might want to try the head fi forums.
headphones being analog, some might say its a whole different level of complexity compared to something like a computer.

if u'r lookin for some IEM (in ear monitors) then i really recommend checkin out the head-direct RE2 IEM's.

the RE2's are highly recommended by the audiohead forums, and are one of the best bang for the buck IEM's on the market. they can be had right now for under $30 bucks. i got mine from head-direct ebay store for $29 shipped to my door. i am no audiophile, but the RE2's are by far the best ear-bud style headphones i've had a chance to own. they focus on sound quality instead of just a lot of boomy bass. the highs and mids are very well defined. the first time i tried them on, i swore i heard new instruments in songs that i have been listening to almost everyday.

there are a few reviews stating that the RE2's have no bass. to me, the RE2's have just enough bass for their targeted sound stage. these focus on sound quality and not cheap bass. compared to my RE2's, my old XPS IEM's that came with my m1530 and my earpollutionz ear buds do not even come close to these RE2's. i would get a headache sometimes from the older earphones cuz of the over emphasized bass. with my RE2's, i can listen to them for longer periods of time, and at louder volumes levels.

I think Klipsch S4 will be my next pair of in ear head phones.
They sell for around $80 - $100 USD.
Klipsch uses an oval shaped silicon nozzel (the part that goes in your ear)that is supposed to be a better fit than circular ones. I bought a pair of Shure SE102 for $70CAD, they are okay, but one of the ear phones works its way out of my ear after I've been running for 15-20min, so I'm looking for a better fit.

THe PX100 are superb headphones (I have a pair ~$45 amazon) but I don't know if it's a pricing error or what, but the two Best Buy's near me are selling the Sennheiser HD238 for $69.99 regular tag price! The website shows $99.99 though and everywhere else (Apple $99.99, Amazon $112) is higher. I used a 10% coupon I got in the mail and got this pair of headphone for amazing price.

Great portable headphone, comfy and very light, comes with a carrying pouch too. So look for that first, I recommend it, highly recommended.

I got a pair of koss portaPro's for christmas.

They don't look like much, but the sound quality is great! I can literally hear parts of my music that I couldn't before.

Being that you can pick them up for about $35, I'd say they're definitely worth a look.

If you do end up getting them, be warned: You may feel the urge to re-rip all of your CDs in a lossless format. My 256kbps copy of Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" sounds downright muddy in some parts compared to my FLAC copy of Holst's "Jupiter". Not sure how much of it is in the recording vs the encoding, but I feel a need to rip "Ode to Joy" into FLAC now. :)

same boat opnickc, after getting a couple sets of HQ headphones, HD555 and down, I find I need to have at least 320kbps quality and even then I know with FLAC I'm missing out, but I just don't have the room for such huge files on my computer/iPod. I know what you mean about hearing things you never heard before lol.

I got some ultimate ears triple.fi 10 pro's from Amazon for $50 :D but I doubt they have them at best buy.

Does the OP have a gift card or something? There are much cheaper prices to be found than what bestbuy will offer, as well as more variety.

I'll add another vote for the RE2s. The bass will possibly be lower than what you're use to, but overall clarity and definition is exceptional for the price. They're also pretty sensitive, so should be driven well by most portable players.
