Title is pretty straightforward. I'm looking for IEMs/Earbuds with microphones on them. The quality of the microphone is most important, and I'm looking to use them for gaming with the IEMs for voice communication; I usually play with earbuds and speakers, or no sound at all, so... Obviously the nicer the sound quality the better.

    Thoughts?

Are you only using these earbuds on your laptop? I think most have a single 3.5mm that delivers both the mic and sound because it's mostly used for phones. There are some adapters that can split it into a mic line and a sound line I believe.

That said, I bought a cheap pair of Meelectronics M9Ps and they are doing fine for me. They were only 23$ on amazon and provide me all I need for my Android phone. There are higher quality and more expensive earbuds such as the M6P, UE SuperFi 5vi, 10vi, etc, but the M9P was good enough for my needs. It was either the M9P or the M6P that got a 9.5/10 for it's value on headfi.org

I'm currently using earbuds for voice and speakers for game audio. If they could go into one jack, that would be preferable, but I must admit I'm no pro nor am I an audiophile, and wouldn't know how to configure the computer to accept audio input and output on the same line.

For a good quality budget product, I'd say the M9P with a 2.5mm to PC adapter.

if i were u, i'd stretch that budget of yours a little more and pick up the ultimate ear triplefi 10vi's right now for only $219. logitech is having a "brown box packaging" sale on them, so i would definitely grab them before they run out...again.

they also have other, nice IEM's to choose from, so check out the logitech sale.

Oh, okay, I know this sounds silly, but... for all these IEMs with microphones, will I have to press a button to engage the microphone, or is there a way to bind it to a key a-la push-to-talk style?

The 10vi's are good but those are for audiophiles.

You don't to press anything to use the mic... not sure where you got that idea

I have this earbud/mic combo from an old "laptop accessories" kit that I had to push the button on the mic part before I could get sound through. I guess I haven't kept up with audio related news.

Wish I could have gotten a pair of those when I got my normal non V version, but they sold out so fast. Then kept coming back in stock in small number only when I was not looking :D

That said I wonder if they would even work on my N900 with the mic. I know my old phone used an attachment that was a microphone and had the headphone jack built into it so you plug regular ones into that and get a mic/iem combo.

I thought Shure has a line of IEM's that basically identical to their regular IEM line but have microphone built-in. But it's far easier to just buy a headphone and the microphone separately.

I'm somewhat against that, since it's yet another thing to plug in to the mass of cables already extending off my laptop. I've already got Power Adapter, Ethernet, DVI to Monitor, Firewire, USB Printer, USB to Monitor, and my current set of junky iPod earbuds. Which is... every port on the left side of my computer, excluding the microphone jack. I'd rather cut down on the clutter if possible.

Seriously check out the Razer Moray+ IEM's. I bought them on a whim and I have to say they sound AMAZING!! $50 and they come with multiple adapters for different mobile platforms (PC, DS, PSP).

I can't tell from Razer's average-to-poorly-designed site. Do the Morays have a microphone on them?

The regular Moray does not, they're just earbuds. The Moray+ (note the plus) have an integrated microphone, along with all kinds of adapters for just about anything you can conceivably plug a mic into.

Buy a Zalman clip-on mic for $6. Then use with any headphones whatsoever.

If it's for a cell phone, the Nuforce NE-7M are pretty damn awesome for the price.

I've used the Moray (the non-mic ones), and they sound very good. They sound much more powerful than they look. I can't speak for the mic quality on the Moray+, as I've never used it.

Sorry for my ignorance, but I'm not actually using this on a phone. Rather, I'm using it for Ventrilo and other gaming purposes.

How hard would it be to setup any of these options?
