Does it really have to be an LCD?

For pure movie/tv show use, I chose 50" plasma last summer, it was only 850e then and now they have been sold even cheaper this spring. For same price, I would have gotten 42" LCD back then. A projector setup was my second option.

Not energy efficient for 24/7 use but kept me warm during winter :D They aren't trendy anymore either, so they are sold cheap now. The most important feature for me was image quality, plasmas really shine on that.

I did comparisons at several dealers showrooms and I couldn't tell difference between 1366x768 or 1920x1080 from ~2m away. So I could actually spend less choosing the smaller resolution and not feel bad about it.

If I hadn't done that comparison I would probably have gotten a 42" LCD and I would now pretend to be happy with it ;)

FullHD plasma, like Pioneer Kuro would be optimal but I'd need to sell my car to get one :D

I would recommend a Sony 46" W5100, 120Hz, Bravia Engine 3, 100;000:1 contrast, internet connectivity, full 1080p, 4 HDMI ports. The 4 ports help when having a 360, bluray player, rogers HD box and my laptop. The TV also has internet connectivity so can download firmware updates and go on you tube right on the TV.

It has an amazing picture, and use it to watch everything. I got the 120Hz motion flow because I watch a lot of sports. I also transfer bluray movies and play games from my computer to the TV via HDMI.

Even though it is Sony's 2009 model, it still has brava engine 3, which is their newest motion flow technology, and is being released with all their 2010 3D TV's. The TV costs around $2000+ on their site, but I got it on boxing day for about $1300 + bluray payer + tax for about $1600. The TV has everything that new TV's have, but since LCD's have been out for a while, It is getting cheaper. Just because 3D is out now, doesn't mean that it's better than regular LCD's, and is definitely not worth the $4000+ price tag.

The w5100 is definitely a great TV if you don't want to spend money on an LED or "3D" TV. I find the picture to be just as good as my 55" LED, which costs more than twice as much. I would buy LCD's over LED's, and would never buy 3D TV's. I don'y like plasma's as much because the contrast isn't as high, and the picture just seems dark (but it is good for dark scenes), but I just find that the w5100 has everything.

Not that it matters when buying a TV, but this TV has an amazing sound system than any other TV that I have heard. It has great bass, and doesn't have a tinny sound.

    And what they hey, I have 2 pictures (bad quality) but Here it is;

Look for a Sharp Aquios, I think they make some of the best quality sets.

We have a Sony Bravia 47" and I do not like it. Long boot times and I think the quality is no better than my cheap Westinghouse.

Best thing you can do for a TV is frequent the deal sites like slickdeals, logicbuy, fatwallet and look for deals on a set that is a good quality.

Samsung & Sharp are at the top of my list.

Example: while I do not like Sony Bravia here is a 40" for almost half off just because its on sale: http://www.logicbuy.com/deals/refur...h-kdl-40v5100-120hz-1080p-lcd-hdtv/18650.aspx

it really depends which series when it comes to sonys. the lower end stuff will just be an ok picture quality set, but in a nicer package. the mid-high end XBR's are some of the best LCD's, picture quality-wise.

$2000 is a pretty big budget when it comes to TV's now. if u decide to go with a plasma then i would definitely recommend a panasonic. plasmas now a days have better burn in reduction, so that's not a big worry anymore. as far as LCD's, i prefer sony or samsung. sony will be the cream of the crop while samsung will be the best value. u can get 120hz LED samsungs right now for well under $2000.

LG 55LHX or the smaller version since I believe this particular model is out of your budget. S-IPS LED, FHD resolution, good contrast, brightness, and response time, plus I believe it's 240Hz (and might support wireless HD).

Have you thought about DLP? Sure its a little deeper, but not too bad.

I got my Mitsubishi 60 inch 1080p 120hz DLP for $800...try to get that size and spec with LCD for the same price...hell, try to get that with $2000!!!

That depends on view distance...my DLP I swear is like 8 feet away from me with the center of the screen about a foot above eye level and there is NOTHING wrong with the view angles at all. Maybe older DLPs had this issue...not seeing anything wrong with mine :D

My vote also goes for Sony for its superb picture quality, good off angle viewing, simple to use and lots of other great features and functionality. If you are a great fan of Widgets, then you'll love this. Good luck!

We've had a 52" Sony Bravia XBR6 for 2 years now and we love it! Picture quality is fantastic and the sound on it is great too. I my PS3 attached to it for Blu-Ray and Netflix streaming. It does a great job with the entire color spectrum and deep blacks too. It is not backlit however, so if that's what you are looking for you might consider a slightly different model.

When I looked around and did my research, this one was the best value for quality and price combined.

As a side note, consider buying it from Amazon, as you get better prices on there and they do free white glove delivery and installation on certain models.

And replacement bulbs are expensive. I have gone thru 3 bulbs @ $150/pop on a 2.5 year old Samsung 46" DLP. Next TV will definitely be LCD.

Another vote for the Sony. I've got a 52" W Series and it looks amazing.
