hey, i saw this one at beth bath and beyond the other day and looks pretty cool, plus i like the fact that it folds to a flat piece for easy storage and I like the fact it has a place for your mouse pad.

    http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=15818735

I was gonnna buy it for 19.99 at the store (same price online) but I didnt.. althougth I just got a 20% from them in the mail so I might just go and get it.

Watch the demo, it shows pretty much everything about it

I actually like this one. Think it would fare well with a studio 1555?

My friend has one of those, Sobek, and Lights. I have used it with my 17'' Laptop in my sig. It was hanging off the side just a little bit, but wasn't noticeable and worked perfectly. So, your 15'' Laptops should be fine. Be aware, the built-in mouse pad might catch lint and hair and actually makes small notebook mice unusable. I ended up using his Logitech G9 and it was perfect. I wouldn't mind getting one and taking out the built-in mouse pad and fitting a nicer one in like a Razer.

thanx tear... i havent been able to try mine yet, but i wasnt expecting to play with my mouse on that pad per say...soft cloth pads are not good for laser mice, and i have also have a logitech g9..i willl place my mouse pad over the cloth one for sure

I love the Belkin Cush Top. It's very sturdy. Don't let the name fool you, it is not cushy, but very comfortable. A lot of retailers carry it so you can check it out in person. I also use it on my coffee table to raise it up. Nothing slips except the mouse.

Made of high-quality, furniture-like upholstery, the CushTop provides increased padded comfort for laptop users. A convenient storage pocket keeps your power adapter and mouse tucked away. By flipping its platform over, the CushTop can accommodate small or large laptops. It is available in three contemporary colors: silver, orange, and green.

Edit: I don't know how it would work for gaming but others looking at this may find the info. useful.

Oh, nice! I might look into getting that one. Gonna check some reviews about it. It looks like it could be pretty portable as well. Only downside is there's no room for your mouse & mousepad.

Yeah finnally tried it out last night and it fits just fine....I can see what you mean about the mouse pad, its just cloth but like i said i have one of those like an excatopad or whatevrr they are called with the hard plastic surface for laser mice and that will work..

I like the fact it has a little reading light attatched to the table, it just takes 2 AA batteries..

for $19.99 + 20% discount cant beat it...plus my laptop gets really hot if I just place it on the bed cuz of the vent location so this was a must

I bought and use this one for bed, floor for a 17" laptop and so far it's been great. Not sure about the couch use.

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001GU7GAK/ref=oss_product

As the reviews have mentioned it could use locking legs and I would like some kind of latch on the drawer to keep it closed when moving it around.

The My Place from Beyond looks like the exact same thing just a little smaller and much cheaper price. I might just by one to keep downstairs.

A simple breakfast tablet with cushion underneath would do you fine.

I use the outside of an old dresser drawer with the handles cut off. Works great!

that's funny. while i was browsing for a lap desk online, it finally dawned on me that i could simply buy a piece of shelving like the ones i used to build my computer desk and cut it to size. nice of the obvious to finally percolate through the consumer brain fog.

I ended up buying the one from the OP, My Place Lap Workstation. It works very well for my laptop (in sig) although I do not use the provided mouse pad and just center up my laptop. I also don't prop it. All in all, for 16 bucks (after 5 dollar coupon) at Bed Bath and Beyond it was worth it.

I was surfing around and found this thread. You say that cloth pads are not good for laser mice. Can you elaborate. I'm curious because my wife makes lap desks and lots of people use them for their computers. Maybe we need to be aware of this. She covers them with cloth.
    Thanks.
