So i've got a budget. I'd like to keep the cooler under $30, and I'd rather not build my own. I don't see many people's questions being answered in the cooler thread stickied, so I thought I'd try here.
I've got a HP dv6t-7000, a 15 in laptop, if it matters. It appears to have two vents close to the center and one on the side.
I was thinking of either the Cooler Master X1, the Cooler Master U2, this Antec cooler, or the Thermaltake Massive23.
I'm not really quite too sure which one is best, since there doesn't seem to be a reliable comparison.

Try the SF-19, it uses 140mm fans. It's compatible with all 140mm fan sold (as long as it is not too thick)
-
The SF19 is out of my price range (unless you see a place I could buy it cheaper?)
-
The Cooler Master U2 is the ultimate choice. Great portability and the fans can be adjusted perfectly
my choice if I were you.
-
I'm worried that the Laptop will not stay on the coolermaster, instead it will slide around. Is this a big issue?
-
The CM U3 would be a better choice, since it has 1 extra fans
-
That still doesn't answer my issue about the laptop sliding down the cooler. Also, the CM U3 is too big IMHO.
-
The U2 does have grippy rubber tabs at the top two corners and if your laptop is large enough the carrying handle at the bottom is also covered in grippy rubber.
My laptop is actually to small to use any of the built on grips but I just stuck some double sided tape and put some chunks of a car anti slip pad on portions of the surface that did not correspond with a air vent. -
Cooler Master is a great buy especially if you get it from Amazon

I thought I answered this question already a long time ago.

U2. It has better fans than the U3 as well.

I own a 6000 series DV6TQE with an i7-2670QM and the 6770 graphics unit. Unless they've changed the design, I think the 7000 series is just a components update on HP's behalf.
I've tested every cooler that people have recommended but the ones people usually talk about are the CoolerMaster SF-19, CoolerMaster Notepal U series, Thermaltake Massive 23 series, and the NZXT Cryo series. I've tested all of these - repeatedly bought them and returned them to Fry's / Amazon.
Honestly, the CoolerMaster U3 worked best. I would suggest buying a U2 and taking the fans off of it and adding them onto the U3 for a total of 5 fans. I have one fan for every vent and the USB connectors daisy chaining eachother into a USB charger that goes to a wall outlet. As I'm typing this, my highest core temperature is 41 C and I'm in SoCal where it's pretty hot.
Everyone will say SF-19 and that was actually my previous cooler. The DV6 doesn't fit on there like it should, so the vibrations from the 140 mm fans shake the entire computer. Additionally, the angle of the SF-19 is makes typing a pain if you're not using an external keyboard. The fans are loud and the grill restricts the potential airflow the SF-19 could have.
Get the U3 - they're having a sale at MicroCenter right now for the U2's (12.99 a piece) so it's definitely worth it to slap on some extra fans.
Note: The fans on the U3 are sleeve bearing fans, and CAN be lubricated with oil by disassembling and peeling back the sticker (Google for more info). The U2 fans, at least the ones I bought yesterday (dated 2012 on the label) are sealed bearing fans (no oil ports). The U3 fans are a bit weaker than those of the U2, but you get a control unit for fan speed. Your call on that one. -
I think 5 fans may be a LITTLE overkill, especially when there's only 2 intake ports on the computer. That's a good deal on the U2 though, I'll head over to microcenter tomorrow. Maybe I'll try Frys first and see if they'll price match. THanks
