    HP makes awesome printers.

Brother printers are the biggest pieces of crap I've ever used. I had to return it 4 times. All different ones (same model tho)

The hardware on HP printers is great, but I absolutely detest the software. There's no reason that a freaking printer driver should take up upwards of 200MB and have a twenty minute installation procedure... ridiculous.

I'll vote for the Canon inkjets. The speed and quality are usually good and running costs OK if you find some third-party ink tanks.

I think HP makes pretty good consumer level printers.
I got a $30 HP printer for my dorm room, and worked pretty much flawlessly for me. Makes good copies when I need something copied, even without it connected to my laptop. Small footprint, looks nice, does its job.

Only qwerk is that it prints reeaally slow.. but what do you expect from a inkjet.
I also don't like how the paper tray sticks out from the front..(but I think most printers have it like that). It protrudes off from my shelf, and I don't want to break it off, so I just keep it closed, and put paper in whenever I need something printed.

My HPs and Epsons were nothing but trouble and crappy prints, although the HPs were much better than the Epsons.

I've also owned the biggest names on the list, and the only one that has never once given me trouble, or even one single bad print, and been amazingly frugal with ink costs, is my trusty old Canon, and get this, it's 4+ years old, and still giving me perfect prints!

I've owned 3 HP inkjet printers in the last 10 years and they still worked until the day I retired them. The ink cartridges are a bit expensive and don't last very long, but that is not the fault of the printer.............

I have had two hp all-in-one printers and have had nothing but problems from both of them. I don't know if the regular printers are any better from them though. The print quality is really nice on mine, but i just have so many problems with it.

I have an old HP printer, and it gets the job done (slowly). The main problem I have with printers is the business model. A recent purchase for 2 catridges (one black and the other the three primary colors) totalled $80.

I have always had the best results with HP printer in terms of quality and ink usage for home use.

I will say however that I have had major issues with their software in the past. The software that came with my PSC 1600 All In One printer was causing my XP system to hit max resource usage and crash after printing. I disabled all of the HP software from running except for the main driver to prevent this from happening.

I still had to vote for HP though because they have always served me well despite that software issue. I have used Dell (free) and Canon printers in the past and found that I was spending a lot more ink for worse quality with a printer of the same price as the HP.

Corporate printers or printers designed to tie in to a modem are a completely different story from home use however. A number of people that recieve automated electronic notices from our office by modem use Okidata printers without issue for the person who voted for them without recognizing the name ;) .

I've had a lot of great experience with HP, and recommend them. I'd highly reocmmend staying away from Epson. Their print quality is IMMACULATE, but their inks are overpriced and have an incredibly low amount of charges.

After the operating costs of my last Epson I've sworn them. I loved the printer, but the costs of using it were killer.

Remember that most likely people just voted for what they happen to be using right now, and many of them likely have little to no experience with many of the choices listed; grain of salt anyone? :D

Very true...often these polls of "what's best :p" are interpreted as "what are you currently using?" :p.

Well, I don't blame them...if you've ever only used one product and it worked fine, then obviously in your eyes, because there's no other product to compare it to, its the best product, right? :D

HP HARDWARE is very good, though not what it once was. HP DRIVERS will be the death of me. Brother is by far the worst makers of printers I have ever worked with. Older Lexmarks had significant driver issues - can't speak to current trends. I have an old Epson E740 inkjet that refuses to die.

I agree completely. HP makes high quality, well built hardware, but nothing but trouble with the software. I owned and used many HP and Canon printers. Canon quality is excellent and much less of a headache.

However, Canon does not like updating drivers. I have an old printer that would not work with XP, and my newest printer only works with Vista because of Microsoft drivers. And now I have a camera that will not work with Vista

Had a HP before. Wasn't bad untill the prints got really bad. Retired it for a very decent Canon and I must say I'm very happy with it.
