I'm looking for 400+ GB external storage capacity. I'm planning on backing up my most important files and media files, but not necessarily backing up my entire system. Speed would be nice, but I'd prefer to get something decent at a good price rather than overspending for speed or capacity I won't really need.

    Suggestions?

3.5" external HDDs with USB 2.0 interface are the cheapest storage for this capacity. 500GB is now quite affordable now that 750GB and 1TB units are available. Look through the range at your favourite supplier.

DVD's are usually the cheapest per gigabyte. but that would be silly. I agree with the external HDD's, 1 tb is really cheap if you look in the right places.

I dont know how I would have any use for 1 tb unless i decided to rip my entire dvd collection and put it on there. Has anyone done think before? I like to go to pricewatch.com to find the best price.
