What is the best cleaner for SONY Xbrite screen? I want a cleaner that can make the screen LIKE NEW again. Went to bestbuy yesterday, bought 3M cleaner > wipe the screen > dirt is gone, BUT the cleaner left some sort of "rainbow" residue on the screen.

    Anyone can advise??

No need to cross post, one is enough.

As for the cleaner, I just use a microfibre cloth with either a spray(I got this spritz bottle of some PowerBook screen cleaner) or just a dab of water.

Maybe try using two micro fiber cloths, spray one with the cleaner and wipe the screen, use the other to dry the screen. Just a suggestion, I never bother cleaning my screen, its getting disgusting too. :)

1/4 Rubbing alcohol to 3/4 water.

Put it on a bath towel, ring out and rub your monitor until its clean.

Then go over your monitor once more with a clean dry towel to get rid of the water lines.

If you can try and find 90% or higher alcohol, as the concentration of water is less there for the alcohol will dry faster with less streaking.

If you use products like 409 and possibly windex. Depending on the formula, it MAY remove any treatment that your monitor has. Antiglare for example.

I don't think I would use rubbing alcohol to clean a screen on a normal basis. Maybe once in awhile for tough marks but over an extended period it might tend to dry out the finish and cause yellowing of the screen.

I simply use a microfiber cloth moistened with water for the normal dust and fingerprint removal. Works great.

Or simply buy one of the many commercial cleaning products without alcohol.

Yeah, commercial cleaning products like Rey mentioned are more abrasive than alcohol. And if anything will cause your screen to turn yellow it’s some cleaning chemical, not alcohol.

As far as a micro fiber towel goes... if you want to go that route then fine. But I use a hand towel since it’s widely available and it works. Old towels = lint. New towels = little or no lint. So make sure to use a newer towel. Not a rag from the garage.

    Novus plastic cleaner hands down

You only want to use the BLUE colored step 1 bottle that is a cleaner, not a polish. I have used it so many times on my sony screen, and love it.

I just use a really soft cloth and water, no chemical or anything like that.

Get facial cottons. It will NEVER scratch your screen. But you have to clean daily or it will get too dirty for the cottons to clean.

Since I bought my laptop which over a year ago, I have cleaned my screen once only. Its so dirty, fingerprints etc right now. But I cant be bothered heh.
I just use a cloth, sometimes wet it but make sure there is no water remaining (you dont want it dripping to the edges of your screen.)

Thats just me though, a chemical is good but more pro - so if you are willing to spend the money go for it.
