I have a mx518 and a microsoft wheel mouse, I can say that the mx518 is a great jump from the wheel mouse. I frequently use the mx518 for games, rainbow six vegas and rose. It works very well.![]()

Yes it is made by Razer. I'm not a fan of the shape, but then again, I'm just basing that off pictures rather than actual use. No reason for me to replace my copperhead, got a spare mx518 sitting on backup already, lol.

I use an MX Revolution (desktop) wireless laser mouse and have become addicted. My Dell (Logitech) bluetooth mouse doesn't get much use.

Does anyone know a good instore place to buy mx518. it's two generations old but still very expensive at places like best buy
-
you can get it on ebay, i'd suggest to go with the g5, i just bought the 2007 version with 2 thumb buttons instead of 1 for 70 dollars, but its definatly worth it to me, great mouse

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
MX518 is very good. I bought it for 25 dollars from amazon and believe a few resellers are selling it for 28 bucks on amazon. Best deal. I've used the g5s but while they are great not really worth the 55-70 price tags. Mx518 works great for the price and some people prefer it over the g5s because of the laser.

I have 2 Razer copperheads right now (one for pc, one for laptop) I absolutely love them. Ive had them both for around a year and put them through heavy use, the only thing that went bad were the white slider tabs which you can replace. I also recommend the razer exactmat (personal preference but I hate icemats.) I have a G9 on order though so we will see how that goes.

I use a Razer Copperhead (plasma blue limited edition, love the color) myself on my desktop, and I am enjoying how it performs. Their software is a little iffy, but once it works, its pretty neat. You can control how much you scroll, the sensitivity, and what each of the buttons do. You can also (without having to open the entire control panel) change the sensitivity "on the fly", by pressing on one of the side buttons and scrolling the wheel, in which a bar pops on the side to show you the sensitivity. 2000 dpi is overkill, but I enjoy using 1600 dpi. Though in the long run, its only good if you want to either do really fine art (in which you change the sensitivity really low, it goes from a scale of 1 to 10) or if you want to go really fast on gaming. The only thing that might be bad is the light. I leave my desktop on 24/7, in which the mouse is always on, like Razer says, so that its always ready, in which its rather annoying to have a bright blue light shining across your room.

Well it depends on , different pc will match different mouse for best performance. I use the Razer DeathAdder gaming mouse .

Is there any reason to prefer the MX518 over the G5(short of cost)?
-
the mouse is all about the feel and durability, cost really shouldnt be a factor....
just go get your hands on both somewhere and play with them for a bit, one could have all the bells and whistles in the world, but your hand might not fit it. Always try before you buy if you can. -
Whys noone talking about the HABU? I just ordered one to replace old blue:
