Any thoughts? I'm trying to decide between wired or bluetooth. I have my eyes on the lg hbs 700 and Sony mw600. My phone will be in an armband for reference. Any wired ones that are around the $50-60 price range that are good. Keep in mind I will be on my back sometimes benching and stuff of that sort so I'm not sure how a behind the neck setup will do. Don't want to break them. It's be nice to have controls on them too to work with my galaxy note. Thanks for any input.
Edit: Forgot to mention the sennheiser 680i

to be honest I had the same question but decided to just buy an iPod Shuffle for $50 and use the headphones it comes with. I tend to sweat a lot at the gym with running and lifting so I didn't want to risk water damage on any expensive pair. The shuffle is perfect since I just clip it onto the sleeve of my shirt and basically forget about it. Plus it's pretty rugged especially since there isn't a screen. Personally it works best for me.

One question I do have is if you use your phone while working out? I mean like texting people or anything? If not then I say go with the shuffle.

Hmm. That's a good idea. I don't tend to really use it unless I decide to look up a workout. A shuffle would be easier to carry than this note during workouts too. I might get a shuffle variant though. Any other good tiny clip on mp3 players like the shuffle? Not a big fan of apple haha. Thanks for for that suggestion.

    Anytime.

Other than the Shuffle I think the Sansa Clip is a great choice. I would have bought that but was travelling and needed something pretty quickly and that was available.

Thank you. Actually, after I posted that question I did some research and plan to buy the Sansa Clip really soon. Seems great to just clip it somewhere out of the way and forget about it. Price is amazing too. Thanks again. +rep.

    +1 for Sansa Clip+
Best MP3 player I've ever owned (coming from Creative MuVo and tons of others of various price points). The EQ curve is FLAT; sounds immense Rockboxed with the Sennheiser 680i's and FLAC audio. The microSD slot is icing on the cake. Clip beats the Shuffle in every way, shape, and form.

Yeah. Just got the Sansa and JVC Xplosivs in today. Both perform amazingly well for the price and the Sansa is just awesome. So light. And while the 4 gigs is enough for me, the microSD slot is pretty sweet. The Note just wasn't working out in the gym haha. Way too big. The Sansa is perfect with how lightweight it is and I can just forget about it. Thanks for your input, Phenomellama. I agree completely.

stay away from those ear buds like the ones apple products come with. they suck as far as music quality and comfort. don't even waste your time hoping that they'll stay in your ear during a mild work out.

just grab any kind of over the ear IEM's and call it a day. i bought some $20 MEE sport IEM's off of amazon and couldn't be happier. they're so cheap, i don't care if i get them dirty or whatever. they also provide pretty decent music quality. i like the MEE's because they have memory cord where the IEM's wrap around your ear. u can bend the memory cord to your preference so that part of the cord will contour to the shape of your ear.

I purchased a pair of earbuds from Dr. Dre(Ibeats) for $100 bucks, nice bass and well made earbuds... I went to sears the other day and found those $10 JVC headphones... they now make them in earbuds!! For $10 bucks it's a steal... Not only that, the bass is almost as good as my ibeats and for only $10 bucks... BT is good but I never like the bass of the last ones I had(Panasonic ones, $60 online).

I'm really partial to my highlighter green. Turns convos about protein shakes and boring stuff like that into just passing waves.

I will say, though, as workout phones, my old Portapros were the best. Then my 680's. Have some iBeats, sound like muffled garbage/durable as a turkey's neck (much as the rest of Dr. Dre's line), had plenty of Skull Candy...more of the same, then started going through Cheapo's: JVC marshmallow, Gummi's, Koss Plugs...okay for $10, but they never lasted.
Long story short, a little more money for something that will last will save you a lot in the long run.

Thank you all for your input. And to you Houstoned. I might give those a try. The JVC ones I got stayed in place through the whole workout, except when I went to run for a bit they kept sliding out due to sweat. Also, the JVC headphones make a horrible hissing/static sound. So I will probably give those MEE's a try.

believe me. if you are going to make some serious workout you NEED somekind of device that won't fall of your head. also you don't want cables, at least long ones. otherwise just forget it. you'll keep adjusting the wires and headphone from all the time because they'll disconnect or fall off.

bluetooth is great because you can connect to several devices, notebook, smarthphone, tv etc. without any problems or cables.

imo get a bluetooth device that you can connect to other headphones. you can even get waterproof ones.

I guess it depends on your ears, mine were rather loose and they did fall a few times while commuting.

I use the Brainwavz Beta. I got them for $13 on sale and they stay in my ear perfectly when I run, even during sprint sessions. They have pretty good sound iso and they have great bass so those bass songs that pump you up are gonna grab u by the balls.

I work out pretty intensely and they never fall out. I run for about 40 minutes (jogging and sprinting) and then I lift. There is 1 problem I did encounter and thats when I sweat sometimes one ear will go out (i guess from the water). Earbuds depends on your ear though with stability. I did hear good things about the beats by dre, friend of mine got them for the gym but I can't justify $100 for just gym headphones. I'm prety sure I saw Adidas and Nike teaming up with big name companies to make workout headphones.

Indeed they do. For example phillips inexpensive phones give my ears some pain for not fitting as well. They are just too large for me. im thinking of buying an in ear
that seals the sound, probably one of those shures that are available.

I just dislike immensely to run with expensive equipment. Since I do it at early morning and/or late evening, being mugged is an understandable fear.

I use UE 500's. They are a bit out of that price range, but I had to go to them because I sweat A LOT.

Previously I used the UE 350i's.

For the money, I'm not sure you can beat the sound/price ratio of the UE 350's. They are right in your price range. I had to replace a set after about 10 months, but honestly they are very resilient. I could see getting another pair when I lose/break my 500's.

i dunno...i absolutely hate earbud-type of headphones. they're not very comfortable to wear, even during regular use, so i could only imagine how sucky they would be during a work out. plus, even if they did stay in place, the sound quality kind of sucks. i prefer the seal from IEM's.

as stated, u can get any cheapo pair of headphones for the gym as long as they go over the ear. over the ear setups are made for the active crowd because they stay in place comfortably during any routine. u can get them for $20 or less.

Have you tried Shure 215? I bought a pair for the gym and the office. Best $130 i have ever spent. Its a micro foam plug so it blocks out a ton of sound and extremely comfortable (i have worn them for 8 hrs straight). Sound IMO by far the best for the price. You typically have to buy Shure at a music store like Guitar Center. Also for at guitar center they include a 2 yr warrenty that covers everything.

    Check em out

As someone mentioned, a big drawback to using wired devices in the gym is the risk of getting it entangled.
But with that being said, I use a wired earbud in the gym as I have found a routine on keeping the wires out of harms way while working out.
I have considered using a wireless headset before but the subpar sound and greater vulnerability to water /sweat damage turned me off.
My tip is just to taper off a bit, ie lift less weight, the first week you use a wired device.

The SE 215's are pretty decent for the money. I picked a pair up a few months ago for traveling (mainly biking/tramping/snow). The isolation is incredible especially with the foam tips. The cable can be cinched to the back of your head which is very secure. One thing you may need to be cautioned on is the actual driver housing size. I know my brother doesn't like them because it hurts his ears after a short amount of time (his ears a fairly small). I should also add that the microphonics of the SE215 cable are fantastic, pretty much no noise transmitted to the ear via cable rubbing (which was a big issue with my old ear buds).

If you are looking for something cheap and simple then the Brainwavz M4's are pretty hard to beat for the money.
