Ok so after my "best mouse" thread, I thought I'd ask about headphones... so what would you recommend on a budget of around £150 (~$300)

    Thanks :D

Assuming you want headphones for listening to pure music (rather than a headset for gaming), I'd recommend the Sennheiser HD595's. They'll run you $300, but they are absolutely amazing (I own a pair).

If you pay over 200$ for the 595's then your getting rooked. I'm ordering some Ultrasone HFI-780's that are recabled with S2 cables. In my opinion there isn't really a 'best headphone' because there are different types of headphones, then each person will like different headphones, because some people like alot of bass, some don't. Some are sensitive to harsh highs, others like them. Its all a matter of what sound signature you like, and this can also depend on what kind of music you listen to.

Yes that style. However I couldn't find any of these in the UK after a quick Google, and wasn't keen on the design.

These look quite good, I like the design and Amazon reviews were nearly 100% 5*. But like syndrome said I found them for ~$200 (in the UK)

I LOVE my Bose Quiet Comfort 2's, but they were gifted to me and highly overpriced. Despite all the technology involved in noise cancellation, you can't beat the price of getting ear buds and shotgun ear muffs :p

I suppose prices have changed when I bought them straight from sennheiser. In that case, $200 is a steal for such an amazing pair of headphones!

I guess we can stop playing around with the little headphones and jump up to the big kid market. ;) I suggest some Ultrasone Edition 9's or maybe some UE11's. Both of wich will run you over 1000USD. But there are also other headphones that will cost you alot. You get into those kinds of markets and you'll need some good sources to justify the headphones. Thats a whole different fortune there. ;)

There are really about 4 different price points for head phones. We all know the cheap ones. Some people might not know the 3rd or 4th price point too much.
I use the Bose Comfort 2 head phones. They are the smaller of the 2 that fir over your ear. I use them in my van which has alot of shaking, rattling stuff in the back. I listen to my XM almost 100% of the time. They sound pretty darn good for the money, and they do a great job of noise cancelling. I can hear any type of siren etc while wearing them. They just seem to take that outside crap noise away. I love them.
Then there is always the high priced daddys, but I need to get better educated on those.

I've been using Shure E2Cs for almost 5 years now. They have never failed on me and for the price, it's a really good investment. I've lost the case and I've beat them up a lot now.

I'm sure there are better ones out there but I like mine and recommend them as well.

People rave about the entire Grado line. They are supposedly great for listening to Rock because of the feel of the soundstage. I am purchasing some SR80s soon.
