Does anyone here know what brand/model lineup makes the best sleeves for impact protection? Both me and my girlfriend need one, as she has a consumer-line model laptop which probably won't stand up to abuse (and she just got it, so I'm trying to help her keep it in good condition), and my laptop takes a lot of abuse in my bookbag because I'm not super careful 100% of the time. Any recommendations?

The Fire Snake Notebook Virtuoso
I have pretty impact resistant sleeve that I got from Best Buy from a little known company called Init. It is a really tough sleeve and is pretty nice. I would also check out a company called BUILT. Their stuff is pretty tough. The material they use feels like a think padded wet suit. Also Swissgear has at least one sleeve I have seen that is pretty well padded. Both the BUILT stuff and Swiss gear stuff is a little pricey(~$30 to $50). Not sure if you are willing to spend that much(what is your budget?), but you will get a nice product from them.

Zeroshock III. As far as I am concerned, the ONLY sleeve to get.

Interior dimensions (W x D x H): 14.7 x 1.6 x 10.8 inches (375 x 40 x 275 mm)
I use a Zeroshock III sleeve with my _M1330, they are better than regular sleeves, but still won't protect your notebook from large drops. -
