I recently acquired a new laptop that I will be using for gaming. I currently have a Logitech V450 nano but I find that it's skipping a lot. It's fine for browsing but completly unreliable for any kind of gaming, so I am currently looking for a replacement.
I have been looking at the Razer Orochi, I like the dual-mode idea, but I heard that bluetooth is a very bad communication protocol for mice.
This is where I want your advice, what are good, well-known, reliable gaming mice? As I said, it could be a dual-mode (usb/wireless), or just a really good wireless one, as long as it works well in a gaming environment.
Thank you.

I use to have the orochi. Didn't like.
G700 hands down. Done. Period. Game over.
-
Why not a wired mouse? Most "gaming" mice are wired only.
-
The G700 is an incredible mouse, but it is pretty large so it might not qualify as a "mobile gaming mouse." However it does have a very small receiver which can be stored in the battery compartment so it is easy to transport. I use mine with my laptop but I am wary of transporting it because I don't want it to get scratched...

If G700 is too big for your hand, then the mamba will be too. The orochi is a great mouse, I just didn't like it because it was too Small for my hand. So check out both at a best buy or local store. They should have it on display.
Check out the rat9 as well.
If NONE of those suite you and you change your mind to go wired. g500, rat7, g9x, drawing a blank, help me out there. I know there's more than that -
IF you do alot of gaming, id advice you not to get the orochi, it is a very very small portable wireless gaming mouse.
IMHO the logitech G500, G9x, stealSeries xai, and the Razer deathadder are among the top best gaming mice. The g700 is the latest and greatest, i dont know to much about it, seems to be a really nice mouse from what i hear. If you want a solid working mouse get one of the four i listed. -
If portability is a priority, then you'll probably like the Razer Orochi. It's compact, but still pretty comfortable. It can connect wirelessly via Bluetooth for most general use, although I wouldn't advise it for gaming, on account of being limited to 2,000 DPI and 8ms response time. It has a detachable 3-foot USB cord that turns the Orochi into a full-power gaming mouse with 4,000 DPI and 1ms response. It also includes a carrying pouch with compartments for the mouse itself and the USB cable.
If the Orochi is too small and/or you want a purely wireless mouse, then the Logitech G700 is a good choice, with a small USB receiver, 5,700 DPI and 1ms response, and a more full-sized form factor. -
Something like the Razer Mamba is +50% more expensive, plus requires a rather large and bulky wireless dock that is inconvenient to carry around. The Logitech G700 has a tiny USB wireless receiver that stays plugged in to your notebook, and uses a micro USB cable for wired mode + recharging.
You are right that Bluetooth is a terrible mouse connectivity protocol if you want gaming performance. The Razer Orochi maxes out at 125Hz polling rate and 2000dpi in Bluetooth mode, and has an annoying 3 second sleep timer. Even Razer fanboys will tell you that you need to use the Razer Orochi in wired mode for full performance... but if you need to do that, then it kind of defeats the purpose of wireless mode for the gamers out there, doesn't it? You might as well just buy a wired mouse at that point. -
for me it has to be the microsoft sidewinder, not to sure of the model but it is big with the removeable weights, and on the fly dpi switching. Its a usb wired mouse solid performance no problems for 2 plus years now.
The dog chewed through the cable so in desperation i just cut and joined the 7 wires inside no solder and it is working again all the functions everything .So the next mouse i get will be the same one. -
Rat 7 is wired, Rat 9 is wireless but like 20 dollars more.

Have you tried the Logitech M305? It's a wireless, laptop-size mouse with a nano receiver.
It's only costs $15 or less at several retail locations and it is very responsive in games like Counter-Strike: Source. It almost feels as responsive as my Logitech G5 on my desktop.
One of the best wireless laptop mices I have tried in a while. It doesn't skip like my dad's wireless Logitech M310 that has a laser sensor. -
Have you looked at the Logitech MX Anywhere mouse?

roocat pyra is perfect wireless 2.4 ghz mouse. Its tiny usb dongle fits in the bottom just like the g700's.

Thanks everyone, I bought a G700 for now, will test it for a few days and see if I like it.
I have been using it since yesterday and until now, it's really good. -

MX518 is what I use. Just wrap the cord around it and toss it in my backpack.
When not gaming and just going to the library to work on stuff I use an el cheapo Logitech 505 or whatever those things are called. -
