Contrast and viewing angles are usually the parts that add up to a good LCD. It looks like you're mostly looking at TN monitors. While they're less expensive, TN panels won't match the contrast and viewing angles of an IPS or PVA LCD. I might suggest the Dell U2312H. It's a bit more expensive, but it's an IPS monitor. If you can spend $60 more, you can get the U2412M, which will get you 1200p and IPS.

I had the VH226h (21.5") and have the VH246h and have been very pleased with both.

I know that IPS has better viewing angles but as these would just be on my computer desk there doesn't seem to be that much need for diverse viewing angles? This is my first time with a desktop monitor and I'm not sure when would dif viewing angles be needed haha

also, how much difference does a 23" have compare to a 24"?

I'm considering the 2312 ultrasharp since I heard alot of good things about it.

the U2312 is great, big fan of Dell's ultrasharp line in general. I use a U2211 and have a TN panel beside it. The difference is night and day (at least to me, it'll vary on your degree of pickyness). Never used a U2412 but I imagine the only real difference is that it's 16:10 compare to the 2312 which is 16:9, you get a little more height.

I'd agree there less need for viewing angles on a desktop, but an IPS display will present you with a better image, which has value.

Between those monitors i can recommend the VH242H by experience. I was very happy with it for the price.

But if you have enough for an Ultrasharp IPS, i would recommend that instead.

Vouching for a Dell Ultrasharp IPS. Even if it is not for viewing angles, the colors are more vibrant, rich and realistic over the washed out feel of most TN monitors. Worth every penny if you can get one, especially at a great deal! ;) Also Dell's IPS Monitor warranties are great over the ones for their laptops...

Another vote for the Ultrasharp monitors.
I currently have a U2411 from their line and it's a great experience, thinking of buying a second one.

Looks like lots of support for ultrasharp. I'm convinced but would like to make one last struggle since I need to make the decision today.

how does Asus ML239 compare to Del Ultrasharp U2312? The former is priced at $169 and the latter $229. Both are IPS panel as many have suggested. Anyone with experience on the Asus?

Lastly, just the only other option which I've seen many decent reviews on, Asus VH238H? It's only $129 on newegg. Thank you guys very much for the inputs, this is a big step for me into actually knowing what I'm buying for computers/accessories, and you all have been more than accommodating! :)
