I am looking for a new mouse, since the old one on the previous laptop is not working well. I do some gaming at maybe the medium level and do some 3D animations, as well as too many hours a day of surfing. What can you recommend?

For gaming, consider the Logitech G7. Its one of the best out there, but it is a large mouse intended for desktop use.

The Logitech VX Revolution is a good wireless laser mouse for notebooks.

I do not have large hands so the smaller mice would be better. I should have mentioned that the SZ has Bluetooth.

The Logitech V270 is a pretty good bluetooth mouse.

I have the V270 and love it. I use it for gaming ( Fear, BF2, Oblivion, etc..) & everyday tasks. You can use it on almost ANY surface.

Is there any effective difference, short of a used USB port, between the RF and Bluetooth mice?

I also would recomend the Logitech G5/G7(G5 is corded, G7 is 2.4 GHz wireless). Even if you have little hands then they aren't bad mice. Although it is nice to have a blue tooth mouse... expect the only one that I have used it a total battery hog.

    Logitech VX

If you search hard enough, you will find MX revolution around the same price as G5 and G7

    G5 and G7: 2000 DPI
MX VX Revolution: 800 DPI with laser thingy!

I don't play bloody shooting games. I only play Sims and Warcraft 3.

I have really really small hands so I really like VX.

A Bluetooth mouse eats batteries faster than an RF USB mouse?

Yes, it does. Depends on how long you use it daily though. Like I use mine 7-10 hours a day, I use 1 battery (cheap brand name, 25cent worth ) and it lasts for 2 months. I had a microsoft 3000 notebook optical mouse, and the battery lasts for 5-6 months. But a mouse like the Logitech V400 that uses dual laser technology that my roomate own, the battery life is terrible, he uses the mouse 2-3 hours a day and the battery can barely last for a month.

Ch28kid has me convinced to try the Logitech VX first. Is there a physical store where you can try out mice?

I believe Best Buy gives you 30 days to try it out, and you can return it if you're unhappy with it.

    You won't be.

I just got my own VX revolution today, and it rocks. You won't be disappointed.

I have a Best Buy near where I live. If they have the 30 day trial, I will buy it from there.

Bought the VX yesterday. Larger than the mouse I used on the Panasonic, but after several hours of use, it seems to be a keeper. Thanks for all fo the advice.
I will start another thread on a sleeve.

I had my VX for about a week already.

The new scrolling feature does make a lot of different when surfing web and typing docs.

The first day I got VX with brand new battery, SetPoint said it has 111 days left before it runs out.

I have not even got to installing the software that came with it, even though I should have. Thanks for the reminder.

The G7 mouse comes with two rechargable batteries and uses a USB charger. At 6-7 hours of use a day, the battery lasts about 3-4 days.
