Hey guys,
I recently picked up a DeathAdder, and I've fallen in love with it. So far, I've been using it on a generic cloth mouse pad, and it's been good, but I'd like to get something more in tune with the performance of this mouse. For the record, the DeathAdder is an 1,800 DPI 3G optical mouse. I tend to game (mostly FPS) at low sensitivity, which translates to more hand movement and faster physical motion.
Also for the record, I used to use a Logitech G9 on a hard-surface textured "Control" mousepad, and I did NOT like it at all. The textured pad hindered motion. I know some gamers prefer it this way because it allows for more controlled motions, but I would rather have much smoother less restricted motion.
So, I guess what I'm looking for is a fairly large, smooth, minimal-friction mouse surface that suits my style of gameplay. I'd prefer large because my hand and mouse go through a wide range of motion, and I often find myself running over the edge of my relatively small pad.
In conclusion, let's get the suggestions rolling!![]()

Ever heard of QcK-mini Steel pad?
cheers ... -
If you want smooth, razer exactmat:
You might be able to find some cheap ones on amazon marketplace or ebay.
Personally I think cloth pads are the best. steelseries qck+:
If that's too large, the normal qck is a bit smaller. -
I also have a DeathAdder. I was about to buy the exactmat. But I found a cheaper one, and better looking in my opinion.
Is from the Razer Pro solutions line. Is white and has 2 sides a rough and a smooth side. I forgot the name. You can check it out in their site. And I found it cheap in Amazon. It is similar to the exactmat, but cheaper.
It is an aluminum pad. The mouse glides super comfortable. My only complaint because is white it can get dirty.
Edit: here is a pic:
-
A wooden table works just fine.
-
Are you asking whether or not the mouse pad makes a difference?
I think so. I also think it is personal choice and feel, but for me it does make a difference. -
Why does it need a mousepad? There are mice that'll run on any surface and they're not expensive.
-
Thanks, that looks alright, although I'm not too excited about another cloth pad.
That ExactMat does look pretty good. Any comments on the glide? I am looking for virtually zero friction here. I wish there a way I could just test these out.
Thanks, that doesn't look too bad. I completely forgot Razer's Pro| stuff existed.
It works, but only so well. If I wanted to game on a wooden desk, I wouldn't be asking about mouse pads. ^_^
A good mouse pad can help your mouse glide better, or help you control your motions. Hand comfort is basically the same with or without a mouse pad.
Yes, but those aren't really what I'm looking for. If I were looking for an office mouse to track on a glass desk, then sure, it would be great, but right now I'm using a DeathAdder gaming mouse and I need a good performance mouse pad to go with it.
Thanks for your suggestions so far. -
If you're interested in gaming only why don't you get something like a Logitech Rumblepad 2? That's specifically designed for gaming and it's wireless. It'll turn your laptop into a game console.

Razer Destructor hands down, it's expensive but damn worth it.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826999030&Tpk=razer%20destrouctor -
Because this is a PC, not an Xbox.
According to Razer's site, the Destructor is more "control"-oriented with a textured surface.
I suppose for now it's between the SteelSeries QcK, the Razer ExactMat, and the Razer Goliathus Speed edition. Other suggestions are always welcome, of course. -
The mouse pad that I showed you. Has two sides a "control" side and a "speed" side. I kind of have to use the control side (it is just a slightly rougher texture). The speed side it is WAYYYY too slippery, just so you keep that in mind. Just because it says control, it doesn't mean is a slow moving texture, it still glides fast and smooth.
And I'm willing to bet money that the Exatmat and the one that I have is the same one just different colors. -
Hmm, the Razerpro.com description doesn't mention the Speed side. Now...black ExactMat or white Pro|Pad?
-
Here check this out:
Razer Exactmat:
http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-mousing-surfaces/razer-exactmat/
"Dual Mousing Surfaces
Switch between the SPEED and CONTROL sides with ease to suit your high and low sensitivity gaming styles."
Razer Pro Solution:
http://www.razerpro.com//index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=16&Itemid=46
"Two-sided, long-lasting mousing surfaces on an anodized aluminium base"
"Dual sided for demanding graphics applications and precision engineering users"
It is pretty much the same one. I guess the Pro one is more marketed towards a business scenario? I don't know.
I'm happy with my white one. Although with my new computer the black one would of matched better. Not a big deal. -
Yeah, I see. The Pro|Pad page doesn't have a price, though. I assume it's $29.99 same as the ExactMat.
-
I found it cheaper than the Exactmat in Amazon. I bought it here in the uk amazon website, for 15 pounds and at that time the exactmat was about 23 pounds now is like 20 pounds. So it is cheaper, I'm guessing it is the same in the US. *not sure though*
The 8 pound difference was what made me go for the Pro|Pad one. -
Alright, cool.
I think I'm going to end up going for the ExactMat anyway (with the ExactRest bundle), because according to some reviews, the white Pro|Pad is hard to keep clean and can cause tracking issues. I like black better anyway.

I use the Razer Goliathus - Speed Edition with my Deathadder, great mat
Just a warning though, its huge! @14" x 10"

It is a cloth top though, -
you know it baby, razer destructor + mamba (older sibling of da DA) is awesome. srsly destructor is so worth it, i got it for like 25bucks tho, special deal...you know. but the DA/mamba work really well and its the perfect blend of speed and control. i have 1080p res, and 3200dpi. its fast and controllable at the same time.
-
To bring a little closure to this thread, I ended up ordering a Razer ExactMat + ExactRest bundle, and am currently awaiting shipping.
Thanks for your help and suggestions, everyone.

I was a hard surface type of guy, loved the smooth sliding, but over time... end up more expensive that i though, tried razer, func, steelseries, icemat, etc, and all are good and to some point different, but all were consistent with one thing, wearing down my mouse feet, i had to change mouse in less than 6months of heavy use, so i switch back to cloth and the wearing is gone, as well as the hard surfaces are better if you maintain them, while cloth is not as fast but its more consistent overtime. Either way im not saying one is better than the other, to each to his own, but for me, cloth 4ever.
-
btw does anyone use Fellowes mouse pad, do they do any good? thx!
-
Fellowes pads are pretty good for office work. Nice and comfortable, but they're really nothing special in terms of gaming. I wouldn't get one if that's what you had in mind.
-
are razer, qtc pads rlly much better?
-
For gaming? I think so. Pads from Razer, Steelseries, etc. are made and sold specifically for gamers, so they have features that gamers like: ultra-smooth surfaces, wide surface areas, textures and materials designed to optimize glide or control depending on your style of play.
-
I highly recommend the Razer Goliathus Control edition. I use it and I don't want to use any other mousemat again. Despite being 'control', my G9 mouse glides perfectly over it as if there was very little friction, however it still stops as soon as I stop applying pressure. It's made my aim much better.
I'd say definetely go for the Control if you play first person shooters, however the Speed edition is perfect for other games such as RPGs. -
I recommend SteelSeries Qck. Bought second one for my laptop last week, and, trust me, it's much better than sliding the mouse on my desk
MX Revolution/G5/past G7 user here.
-
I didn't know that in order to get the optimum gaming experience with Razer products, you had to match your Razer mouse with the obligated Razer mouse pad.
In any event, I trust Func for my mousing surfaces. Their original 1030's are a bit on the small side, but their larger pads (like the Archetype) are quite nice, including their all-aluminum billet series, the MBA. -
In case you didn't notice, I took suggestions from everyone and considered other pads like SteelSeries as well, and went out Googling for reviews on all of them. After much research, it seemed like the Razer ExactMat was exactly what I was looking for. If I don't like it, I'll return it and give a SteelSeries mat a try.
I really hate your whole "you use Razer, you're obviously a ricer-driving fanboy who knows nothing about quality products" attitude. It really makes you look like an elitist . -
And?
Calm down bro, I'm just giving you a hard time.
-
I'm currently using my deathadder with the steel series cloth QCK. it's very high quality and allows the mouse to glide without any problems!
-
I get it, but jeeze man...every freaking Razer thread!
-
Yeah, I know. I really should start a "I <3 Logitech thread".
Best mouse pad for a Razer DeathAdder?
