Hi all,
Im back on the mouse market again after destroying the mouse I bought with my notebook.
The scrollwheel snapped and got lodged inside, taking a big chunk of the rubber topcoat along with it..
Yes the game was very exciting.![]()
Sooo with my last 50 bucks ill be needing a new mouse that has a strongly built scrollwheel.
Theres no real prefference to bluetooth/wireless/wired, but bluetooth apparently hates busywork,
and wireless in general drains batteries quick. Atleast I think so.![]()
Does anyone know a suitable candidate for a bit of gaming roughhousing?
Cheers,
- Sven

Logitech - MX 518 Gaming-Grade Optical Mouse
I'm using this mouse since Q1 08 for games. It's just superb. It's well built mouse & On-the-fly sensitivity adjustment is add advantage. -
Your best bet would probably be the Razer Copperhead or the Logitech G5
-
The "gearshift" is a superb extra, and the extra weight makes it an awesome gaming mouse.. for home desktop use.
Im looking for something a little less lumpy though, it needs to slip into my courier bag for mobile gaming.
Although the mice David picked are very good ones aswell, the same applies. -
I love the feel of my Cyber Snipa Stinger. Has on-the-fly sensitivity adjustment, macros (for 2 thumb buttons) and lights up~

I use the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104016 its 5 over your budget but an amazingly good mouse
-
The tuck away reciever is a nice touch aswell.
How is batterylife with these wireless things nowadays?
Can I get away with putting a fullycharged set of 2700mAh batteries + another fullycharged pair in my bag to get me through 2 weeks of mobile use?
I dont plan on taking (another) charger along with me really, so its important to me that it can last a while without one.
Also what kind of impact does a USB reciever have on the notebooks battery? -
The VX Revolution is actually an excellent mouse, but only slightly smaller in size than desktop designs. The VX nano may be a better choice for you.
As for use, my VX Revolution generally lasts for about 3 months of daily use before its battery requires replacement. -
I must say, the nano does look quite classy, with the chromed flat scrollwheel, still retaining the thumb buttons, and ofcourse the really nice tiny reciever.
Unfortunately it does seem to overshoot my budget quite alot, but its hard to say no to the nano though..
Its more expencive then the average budget mouse, but it does seem to deliver quality for its price... Darn.. what to do.
3 months on a single charge and normal use?
Good lord, thats a farcry from the optical mouse I had 5 years ago (didnt last a week on 2xAA).
Batterylife on the mouses part doesnt seem to be an issue then.
What about the effects of a reciever on a notebooks battery though?
Is it very noticable compared to a wired USB mouse?
One thing concerns me though. Wireless mice have lag?
Somuch that it could considderably ruin a game in the heat of battle? -
Here you go, a VX nano that doesn't burst the budget (well hardly so).
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000TKHBDK
Look around, you will usually find it cheaper.
The VX revolution was going for $2 after rebates around black friday. That was awesome. -
Cheapest I can get it around here is 47gbp/50eur/65usd.
Lag and only 800dpi is a bit of a downer though.
Kinda breaks the deal for me, especially for that price. -

I think that the Logitech G5 Version 2 (the blue one) is an amazing mouse. There are also other great mice out there in the market.
Reputable mice i have heard of during the past times i have done gaming on Counter Strike Source were:
the MX518
Logitech G5 (i personally own this and LOVE IT!)
Razer Deathadder (great optical mouse)
Razer Copperhead
Razer Lachesis
The only thing i recommend is NOT to get a wireless mouse because if your into First Person shooting games , it requires alot of sudden mouse movements and Wireless may cut off sometimes. Especially if you have an aluminum bordered mouse pad like me, the frequency gets cut off and i get mouse "lag" or "glitching"
Laser mice track a little bit slower than optical and doesnt track when lifted off the mouse pad by a couple milimeters which is good -
-
Alot of contradicting statements I see.
One says theres no lag and gaming is fine, others say it cuts off and messes up alot.
Not sure what to believe at this point. -
It cuts off as the mouse goes to "sleep" after inactivity and takes a second or two to kick back in.
As for dropping connections, some users complain that wireless mice drop connections easily, others don't have an issue. I generally don't have an issue with it. Just pointing out that some people do. -
would seem a bit crummy if it coulnd keep up a connection across that distance.
And I guess gaming on the notebook ive got isnt really serious gaming.
Its only 13.3" so I guess its like asking for powersteering on a minicooper.
My gaming repertoire is a littlebit of everything, from rollercoaster tycoon up to team fortress.
Aslong as the crosshair doesnt move half an inch each time I give the mouse the slightest nudge I dont think id have much to worry about.
So the VX nano will be a good casual gaming mouse? -

Ive been reading some reviews on the VX nano, some even mention it might verywell be the best mobile gaming mouse of the lot.
So ill just scrape together a few more dollars for this little pretty.
I can always count on this forum for a decent answer without being rediculed for not knowing the answer myself.
Thanks for the advice guys!
Ill tell about what I think of it here, when I get my VX nano.
ps.

That's not a mouse, that's something to lose behind couches.
Also, glad to help. -
I wouldn't use a lazer mouse, i had to return a couple of g5's. Deathadder or mx518 would be my choice, i have both and i would say go with the deathadder, the texture of the 518 is plastic or something get dirty way to quick and makes my hands feel nasty.
-
Ive got a G5 too, and its the best mouse ive ever had actually. Whats wrong with lasermice?

The best mouse for you will be logitech G5 or Razer Copperhead.
-
I don't mean to hijack the thread but, how are the Razer Diamondbacks and Microsoft Habus? Are they comparable to the ones being recommended in this thread?
-
If you're quick on your feet and go to circuit city NOW, they might still have the Microsoft Sidewinder for $51 (usually $70ish). Or any other gaming mice for that matter, what with the liquidation and all...
Best notebook gaming mouse for under 50usd?
