Obviously a hard flat one, but what about different types? plexiglass, sheet metal, cardboard, wood.

I'm going to get a cut of one of these materials, because I use my laptop on my bed, and would like a lap surface. Any idea which one would disperse the most heat?

I'm thinking perhaps the metal, as it would act as a semi conductor. But maybe that would be a bad thing. Maybe I need something that would just bounce the heat into the air, like plexiglass or wood?

Most (if not all) notebooks have rubber feet so they do not conduct heat to the surface they are on. Where does your laptop have its air intake? That area should be cool. Once the air get blown out it doesn't matter too much as long as it is not closed in and heat is allowed to disperse.

I think you are thinking too much into this. The surface material matters very little in my opinion. Metal can sometimes cause problems with wireless mouse and wifi but besides that just get something flat that doesnt wobble. Not to slippery so that the notebook doesn't slide around. If you are so worried about heat maybe a notebook cooler would be best.

Thanks for the replies, that thing looks great...never knew it existed. Got some good reviews too, It's probably around the same price as a plexiglass cut anyway.

I've been using two pieces of cardboard I've taped together, but it's become flimsy and starting to cave in. Keep in mind, when I game, the cardboard gets very hot, so it must conduct to a degree. The fan blows out toward the rear, on the left side.
