Hello! I'm buying the new HP Envy 15 for my sister but I'm getting her the laptop with the 300GB SSD. And I know that she needs more storage capacity for her music and movies. Can someone recommend me a ultraportable external hard drive that's really fast and reliable? I need a external hard drive that's 750GB or more. The price doesn't matter. However, if there are any very good external hybrid hard drives that are 750GB or more please recommend too. :D

Western Digital My Passports are pretty good - I've got a USB 2.0 1TB that I snagged during the summer at Best Buy for something like $70, though they seem to cost WAY more now because of the floods in Thailand (USB 3.0 TB's were $80-90 at Best Buy the time, now $200 on Newegg). They're very small, they look nice, and they're powered by the USB connection. I don't think you're going to find anything much smaller, and without getting a much larger, externally powered desktop-size external (or an external SSD), you're not likely to get anything much faster, though it's still limited by its 5400 RPM spindle speed.

If you dont mind blowing cash, and feel you need some ultra performance in terms of safety, check out the ioSafe drives, rugged or rugged +ssd.

Why not buy an external SSD then?

DIY solution: nice aluminum enclosure, light and resistant, put the drive you want inside. I'm a DIY guy, what can i say.

I went with the 1 TB 3.0 Seagate Go Flex. I bought it right before the prices soared up to double where I am currently deployed. I like Seagate because they have always been very reliable. The 1 TB Western Digital 3.0 is slightly smaller. You can't go wrong with either one of those. Good luck choosing!
