I just ordered a 14.1" Lenovo T61 with 9 cell and I need a sleeve and a new back pack. I ride a motorcycle to school and work everyday and I need something that will keep it dry when it rains. I'd like to have a large back pack and a minimalist sleeve if possible. I'm looking to spend $100-150 total for both.

I currently have a higher end Jansport back pack and it seems to be semi-water resistant. I like it a lot because it's big and has a lot of zippers but it's about 8 years old now and should be retired. One thought is to buy a similar back pack and coat it with one of those waterproof sprays. I'm also thinking about coating a sleeve with the same stuff but I'm not sure how it would effect the material.

Yes. Buy something that is semi-water resistant, or fully water resistant. Apply some spray, and you should be fine (assuming you don't take your stuff underwater). Rain won't get to your stuff...only humidity/condesation is what you have to worry about.

I'd check out TomBihn, Spire and Booq. Each have backpack/sleeve combos that might work out. They're all pretty expensive (might be a little out of your price range - closer to the 200 range) - I think Spire might be your best bet with its Torq Backpack.
