Another thread as I realise I need a bit of help deciding on my laptop mouse too. Comfort is important, and I will be using the laptop for anything from essays, to internet, to photoshop and also gaming. Have had a bad experience with wireless mice, so I thought I would stick to logitech optical mice. These are the two I've narrowed it down to:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-MX...5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1220960694&sr=1-5 - seems a little ugly :p but is apparently a very decent mouse at that price. However, the price may not be so necessary as I've heard all that extra dpi isn't really 'essential' unless you are some crazy fragger.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-OE...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1220960694&sr=1-2 - The alternative - a decent priced laser mouse still with something like 1000 dpi which I presume is enough for anything I named. Just don't know about comfort.

Also, are the extra buttons on the first worth it and any known issues on software/bloatware/drivers etc.?

Just need a bit o' guidance if possible from you guys. I'm right-handed. Many thanks

Logitech MX518 is an awesome mouse, so popular that Logitech has kept this model around for several years.

I personally use a G5 on one of my comps, and absolutely love the feel and performance of this mouse. It makes me wonder why you would ever shape a mouse any other way.

I also have a G9 just for the features, but the G5 still feels the best in hand.

I have the mx518 and it is a great mouse... I recently purchased a vx revo and find to far superior to the 518 as far as comfort and smootheness are concerned.

The vx also has the free moving scroll wheel which once you get used to you will love. and even if you dont theres a button on the bottom that turns it into a clicky one.

If you're going to play games with the mouse, mx518 all the way. Heck, even if you aren't going to play games, 1600 dpi is pretty useful and the mouse has a lot of useful features.

I have an MX518 and a VX Nano - the Nano is for portability uses etc. I always miss my MX518 when I've been away for too long.

The 518 is just the best mouse ever! I had a 510 before this which wasn't Vista compliant properly.. been using the two for years in combination.

The thing I love about the 518 is the shape for one thing as a right handed person, but also all the buttons, they're great for gaming. I play WoW and I like to use the buttons for particular abilities like autorun or some heals etc.

It's well, well, WELL worth the extra £10. It'll last you forever.

The MX518 would probably be the better choice provided that you're right-handed. It's one of the most popular "premium" mice of all time. And it got that way because it really is one of the best.
