I am doing a full erase at max and my blu-ray writer can do bd-re single layer 25gb at 2x max, so i though 30 minutes, as in the day of dvd`s 1x speed took 1hour 2x 30min.

I did not look at the erase speed it was set at max.

    I am using BurnAware Professional.

And it has been erasing for 131 minutes  , 164 minutes now

    John.

x2 speed should run at about 9 MB/sec, about 47 min for 25 GB disc, even minimum speed should take no more than 95 min. It's either overheating and pausing or doesn't track properly. If you were writing new data I would think you have verification on, but that shouldn't be during erase.

196 minutes and still going, it`s my only BD-RE and i dont want to kill it by stopping the erase, BurnAware Professional is a piece of **** , no time estimate or current burn speed that a lot of writing programs do, Come back imgburn all is forgiven.

I am using an "Samsung SE-506BB" external writer, latest firmware.

I can hear it slowing down and then starting up every couple of seconds.

I have been burning dvd`s for 25 years, before buffer underrun technology, with scsi driver`s , you just had to look at a burning dvd and it became a coaster, those were the day`s

I always thought that 1 speed meant an full disk too 1 hour to burn 2 speed too 30min then 24 speed 2.5 minutes , but no about 5 minutes but wait that is wrong right, I paid for 24 speed, what are we at with dvd now 52 speed.

I only use imageburn, but older version, there was something I didn't like about newer version, can't remember what, maybe there was no more portable version. But if it stops, I would speculate your drive is overheating and pausing, not program fault. Can you ramp up fan? maybe sticking cooling pad underneath would help a little? Next time do it before going sleep.
x1 speed for CD takes about 80 min to read whole disc, only x1 DVD is close to 1 hour (57min), but maybe it's incidental.

It`s an external writer i am using, so it`s not heat, I have a 7kg 20" tablet/notebook with 3hr battery life in it, see my sig for details.

I am at 68% in 32 minutes with imgburn, it should take 30 minutes if every thing was perfect, but i expect about 45min, I was at 200 minutes when i pulled the plug on BurnAware Professional.

EDIT : It is done, and it took 43 minutes at 2.2x speed with imgburn.

Sometimes the laser overheats inside the drive when it's writing large amount of data and it needs to pause to cool down, sorry I didn't make it clear it's not about computer overheating, but now it does seem the program was the cause, so all is well.

I can see why you had so many problems. DVD's have only existed for 20 years.
