I was just wondering if someone can give me a reliable brand on blank DVD+/-. I need them for system recoveries, so I need a good brand.

I searched around and found that the price gap was huge between certain brands such as Phillips and Memorex (strictly DVD+/e...not RW).

So please help me out here, I know this was probably a lame question, but I'm not very tech savvy. Thanks very much.

Verbatim and Sony are pretty good. Taiyo Yuden are the highest quality blank DVDs you can get.

Remember that the quality of a DVD affects how long it should last before the dye decomposes and data is no longer readable. It also affects scratch-resistance to a degree. Just don't go buying blank DVDs from some no-name brand (that includes store brands like Fry's and CompUSA!!)

Philips DVDs are also very good. A year ago I bought 200 of them because they were very cheap, now I've used up all of them and never had a single problem.

Do the Taiyo Yuden have some sort of scratch protection on them? Because I would always use the Maxell DVD+R High Grade brand(4.7 gig) but I can't find where to buy them anywhere. I used to buy them at Walmart but they don't sell them anymore.

I usually use Sony or Phillips DVDs. I've had no problems with either brand.

For me, whichever brand is on sale or has a rebate, as long as it's not Memorex. Usually, that's Fuji or TDK.

Taiyo Yuden Japanese-made disks(Not the Taiwan made ones) are the absolute best, but finding them is a challenge.

Definitely either Taiyo Yuden or Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation... Verbatim mostly use MCC media. Sony is good most of the time, but I've seen a couple of dodgy batches from them.

According to the review ratings on Newegg, Verbatim seems to be by far the most reliable. I'm using some Memorex's right now and the only disc that's failed at burning was when I hit the eject button accidentally :p

If possible, stay away from the cheaper Ridatas.
