I have the Vaio's BT mouth. It's much more convenient, no need to worry about loosing anything other than the mouse. I think it would drain the battery though.

I have Microsoft's bluetooth mouse and have had awesome luck with it. I got it last September 1st (give or take a day) and I'm still running on the original batteries. I don't use it daily, but it's always up and ready to roll when I need it! Great mouse and you can get it cheap on eBay brand new.

You don't need the dongle in the picture, I kept mine though for use in the future just in case.

When the laptop is switched on do bluetooth mice recognise the PC straight away?

Yeah, once it's recognized the mouse initially when you set it up, Windows and the mouse should talk without a problem each time you turn it on with no need to manually set anything.

I like my regular sized one, less strain on the hand. I think Targus or Kensington make one if I'm not mistaken...

Here's mine http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10388952&SearchEngine=Froogle&SearchTerm=10388952&Type=PE&Category=Comp&dcaid=17379 Kensington PilotMouse mini BT

Works great, it's called a mini but it's not one of the really tiny meece. It's a good size to use. I really like the grips on the sides.
Once the machine starts, click it, the machine recognizes it and it starts working. Has an On/Off switch to prolong battery life.

I personally would reccomend a wired mouse that way you don't need to worry about the batteries.

There is actually a black version of this mouse do a google search for it anyhow it's around ~60 dollars and the only reason I like about it is because it uses batteries lol! I have lots of triple A rechargeable lying around.
