Hi all
I've been looking to get a webcam recently, and I have heard great things about the Logitech Quickcam series. The QuickCam Deluxe for notebooks is on sale at Amazon for a great price, but I'm having doubts because of the first review. He states that the software comes loaded with additional bloatware that'll kill system resources and send information to Logitech. Can anyone confirm these statements are true or false? I don't really mind the sending of information, but system resources is a big deal to me. The review is found here

Also if anyone has other suggestions for nice quality webcams (pricing probably $50 max), I'd definitely like to hear them. The only requirement is I want them to be compatible with Skype and AIM. Thanks all

I think he overblows the problems, but the Logitech is a consumer-freindly device, which as always means it sacrafices flexibility and lean-ness for ease of use. It looks like a solid device, but if you want something that runs ultra-light-weight, you'll have to look elsewhere. As to his "phone home" comment, he's whining about it polling the server for driver updates. I wouldn't worry about that at all.

Thanks for the info about these Logitech webcams. I was reading other reviews and it looks like the bloatware can be avoided if you just plug it in and use it - i.e. do not even use the install CD. This does look like an unbeatable deal based on the price and rebate, so I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

I've encountered at least a little "bloatware" every time I've installed a product from Logitech. Things like worthless music players and whatnot. They're an optional extra when you install the software. It's no big deal really...
"Bloatware" on Logitech QuickCam Deluxe?
