Hello. I am not well informed on players. but I wanted to purchase blu-rays on a popular website, and it says:

Region 35606 encoding. (This DVD will not play on most DVD players sold in the US or Canada [Region 1]. This item requires a region specific or multi-region DVD player and compatible TV. More about DVD formats)

Is there an external blu-ray for my laptop I can buy to play all regions and also burn blu-rays? ( so I can copy files from laptop and put on disc) If so, could you please recommend a good one?

    Thanks in advance!

Ignore that website, its faulty. Not even sure what they mean by "sold in American" since most if not all blu-ray/DVD drives are made in China.

My external player is from there and I have no trouble playing my Blu-ray discs. My region code is set by my player software Cyberlinks (expensive but the best) and you can change it three or four times.

I bought my 12mm from Amazon, ship by DIGISTOR, and my 9.5mm player from ebay. The external enclosures are also from ebay. They're plastic and super cheap, but do the job nonetheless.

There is one other way around this so called Region locked DVD/BD playing. AFAIK only AnyDVD HD from Slysoft allows you to play any region on your computer DVD/BD player software. But you want to ask the forum user at Slysoft to be exactly sure on this question. But AFAIK when you use it and another Slysoft program or another extra to backup your DVD/BD it makes the DVD/BD Region free.

None for laptop that I know of currently or being made for. But AnyDVD HD from my understanding when installed and running will allow a Region 1 to play another Region without setting your DVD/BD drive Region settings.

Although everything posted by S is correct ... I'd kindly advise a gloss at the Forum Rules ;) and recommend a little editing to this otherwise informative post.

I think they're talking about DVDs not Blu Ray Discs. Blu Rays only have 3 region codes: A, B and C. It's pretty lax compared to DVDs. You can check out wikipedia for more details.

Region Free/multistandard Blu-Ray involves modded players. None of them are cheap. They cost premium prices. Sorry they are not cheap. Blame the MPAA and Hollywood for this.

Yes, most of these machines are aimed at the immigrant and expatriate users.

    Arrrrr, mayteeee!

Generally speaking, I've read when one see's the Region 35606 encoding, it usually means the DVD is pirated.
