I am trying to decide if I want to spend the extra 20 or thirty bucks on a bluetooth card for my laptop. As of right now I can't really see a time when I would use it. I have a portable mouse that uses a usb connection, and I don't have a camera, printer, or palm pilot that use bluetooth nor do I plan on purchasing any of those. So I am trying to decide if I would ever use it. I do like the thought of having bluetooth headphones to listen to music through, but all the ones I have seen also include a headphone jack that is the bluetooth source. So, I am wondering should I get it???? Any advice is welcome. thnx

Do you plan to use a GPS? Some phones are bluetooth, also.

I personally have no need or desire to have Bluetooth devices.

When they start supporting them in my office with a bluetooth printer, then maybe I'll consider it.

It would be better if there was a built in USB 'receiver' since many mice use that interface.

Yes, this would be nice, although the physical device that recieves the signal has not been standardized. The IEEE needs to get on it! UWB technology should include this in it...sometime in the future...

Bluetooth has a lot of different uses. Right now I have a wireless bluetooth mouse that doesn't require a dongle, and I sync up my phone data using Bluetooth. It's definitely worth the additional $20-30.

I see no use of it for you. Printers can be usb, I don't know about cameras, but I do know that palm pilots can be bluetooth or USB (wireless or wired).

As for bluetooth mice, I wouldn't bother. (For me) in general, I would rather not have to replace the batteries (which cost money) for just a mouse that costs extra money. Since laptops are on the desk with you, you really don't have to worry about problems with the cord (unlike pc where the actual comp is usually below you so sometimes there could be cord issues).

    Its a luxury worth having.

I use a BT mouse and can't do without it. A wired mouse is just too messy... Its so handy just having a small BT mouse you can just slip into the bag and take out without having to worry about folding the wires neatly so it doesn't get tangled wiht other stuff. Battery life last ages on my Logitech v270 mouse. People have reported it lasting for 4/5 months without having to replace them and thats with good usage too.

I also sync my SonyErricson w800i and the convenience factor being able to beam photos without any software on the comp is so handy. I can even use my phone as a BT remote control.

Then there are headphones and many other stuff with BT... I find BT 10x better than infrared where direct line of sight is required and constantly breaks because of this.

can't really say its worth it or not, ALL depends if you're use it or not, if you're never going to use it then it's not worth it. If you plan on ever using it then yes. If you can afford the extra 20 bucks its usually good idea to get but if its 40+ dollars like on some customized laptops then just decide if you're ever gonna use it.
