I posted this in the Dell forum and didn't get any answers so I deleted the question and didn't know whether to repost under Accessories or Hardware so will try here first.

I have a Dell Studio 15 and installed a 370 bluetooth card and just updated the driver, a guy (Somms) posted a link for a newer driver.

I had 6.1.0.4700 installed but used Somm's link for 6.2.0.6600 and installed it. After installing I went to Device Manager-Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Mini-Card Properties-Driver and it shows 6.2.0.4600 instead of 6.2.0.6600, how come?

I have Plantronics 590 bluetooth headphones which I have been using and this is my first experience using anything bluetooth.

I noticed when I had 6.1.0.4700 installed and I went to Bluetooth Settings I had to manually connect Bluetooth Stereo Audio to enable use of my headphones in stereo plus when I went to "Sound" and "Playback" I had to also select "Speakers Bluetooth Stereo Audio" (if it didn't connect automatically).

After installing 6.2.0.6600 (and showing 6.2.0.4600) there is nothing showing "Bluetooth Stereo Audio' in either the Bluetooth Settings or in Audio/Playback so have these settings just been eliminated while at the same time still getting stereo audio to my headphones?

Sometimes when I turn on the 590's it says it's connected yet the music still plays through my laptop but at the same time I can pause or play (WMP) on the laptop from the controls of the headphones. I've just not had consistant headphone operations using bluetooth when it says they are connected, sometimes music plays through them other times the music comes through my laptop.

What is normal Bluetooth behavior/settings using Bluetooth headphones?

Once you successfully pair a Bluetooth headset, you will see it under the sound properties in the control panel. If you set it as the default play back device then all the sounds will be heard through your BT headset. Once you disconnect the headset your sound card will become the default playback device, and if I remember correctly, as soon as you pair it back again it will be made the default playback device. However, if you launch an application before pairing the headset, most likely the application will continue to output sound over the sound card, so you should close it and reopen.

Yeah I get the part about pairing up the headset and setting it as the default in Sound Properties but what I'm asking is this.

Before I upgraded the driver when I went to the Bluetooth settings there was an "Audio" tab (not there now) with two options:

    1. "Bluetooth Hands-free Audio" - This connected automatically everytime I turned the headphones on.

    2. Bluetooth Stereo Audio" - This I always had to connect manually which actually was a pain as I couldn't figure out a way to automatically connect. If I didn't connect this then I still got audio through the headphones but the quality wasn't as good.

Also with the older driver in Sound Properties along with "Bluetooth Hands-free Device" there was "Speakers Bluetooth Stereo Audio" which I set to the default.

After upgrading the driver there is nothing listing "Bluetooth Stereo Audio" in either the Bluetooth Settings or Audio Properties. What shows up now in Bluetooth Settings is there is no "Audio" tab but under "Devices" "590Plantronics Passkey enabled Connected" and in Sound Properties "Speakers"-2 Bluetooth Hands-free Audio Working" which I have set to default.

Is it possible that the new driver just eliminated all the "Bluetooth Stereo Audio" listings but I'm still actually getting it? It sounds decent but I have no way to compare the quality as before.
