    Hello,

I was wondering which of the following will take up the least amount of battery life from a laptop:

    Bluetooth 2.0 Mouse
    Classic RF Mouse
    Wired USB Mouse

All are optical mice and, please consider how a USB mouse draws its laser power from a laptop directly, and how the technologies of Bluetooth 2.0 and Classic wireless have come so far along.

my bet is on a wired mouse, but I'm definitely no expert.

I would think the bluetooth powered mouse would take up the most amount of battery life.

Reasons being, on some laptops example the HP, when bluetooth is enabled, WiFi is enabled too.

Both the radio chips are going to be working to send and receive radio signals. The bluetooth radio will continuously communicate with the mouse. This is going to involve a lot of sending and receiving of signals.

The WiFi radio will continuously probe to check if a WiFi access point is available.

Even if you do have WiFi disabled, bluetooth consumes a lot more than a USB powered mouse.

Is that so? Two for Bluetooth 2.0

I've been looking for comparison charts or graphs; can you guys tell me how you came to this conclusion, and/or where you got your data from to know that Bluetooth 2.0 takes up less battery life?

    I say RF.

it's just a receiver - no sending circuits activated.

I would say bluetooth mouse also. It's basically a matchup of how much power a bluetooth receiver uses versus a wired mouse uses. Turning off just bluetooth adds about 10-15 min to my 9 cell here. if that matters....

My money's on the wired mouse for lowest power consumption

Wow, I'm seeing an even distribution here =P Seems like either

    - The difference is negligible
    - Nobody's bothered to check

What's a battery? :D :D I would think a wired mouse would use the least, but what do I know :D

I think I agree on this one. Like gemmak said, wired mice draw power from the notebook via usb, so you have this thing sucking energy to power its laser.

With Bluetooth mice, the laptop is powering its internal BT radio, which transmits and receives data whenever it is on (I believe), since it has the capability to communicate back & forth with other devices like cell phones and stuff.

However, with a simple RF mouse receiver plugged into a USB port, I don't think the receiver draws any measurable amount of power from the laptop, because it is only receiving data from the mouse. This would mean that it would use the least power of the 3 options, I think.

I would think wired would be the least effective on saving power, given that a wireless mouse (bluetooth or RF) uses its own batteries, whereas a wired mouse needs current supplied from the USB port to function. And I can't imagine that a reciever in a USB port uses more power than a wired mouse that uses a laser light and needs to power a small PCB.
