I'm planning on getting a 12" Powerbook in September, and I want a Bluetooth mouse to go with it. Apple's offering is overpriced and doesn't have enough buttons. Third-party pickings were slim earlier this summer, but things are looking up.

    The features I want are:

Bluetooth: proprietary RF will not do. I do not want a dongle.
Two buttons and a scroll wheel.
Colour and form: I'd like a small mouse, and one that isn't ugly. It should be metallic, ideally red, but blue or silver will do.

The best form I've seen is Logitech's wireless notebook mouse, which is unfortunately proprietary RF. My current Bluetooth favourite is Targus' Bluetooth notebook mouse, which appears to have a beautiful crystal, back-lit blue scroll wheel, and a silver body. My only problem with this one is that I can't find it anywhere. It's in a press-release on this site, but it doesn't seem to exist on Targus' site or at Best Buy, where it was supposed to be featured.

I haven't seen any small Bluetooth mice. I use the MX900 at work, but that's preety big to be toting around all the time.

Kensington makes a mini Bluetooth mouse, but the Targus one looks really tidy. I just don't know how to buy it.

Funny, I saw the Targus news minutes after my post. I'd wait for that one, though $70 is a bit stiff.

It's one of those ones that comes with an adaptor, whether toy like it or not. That really bothers me: if I wanted an adaptor, I'd buy a proprietary RF mouse for less than half that cost. You shouldn't be bundling adaptors with something industry-standard.

When that mouse does finally show up in stores, I hope it is available independently.

so did you come to a final conclusion?

I am also searching out a mouse,
One of my stipulations is that it must have a mini USB hookup for charging it straight from the laptop rather than ANOTHER plugin...

    I have this:

    http://us.kensington.com/html/6367.html

It feels solid and has a nice grip. I haven't had any problems with my T42. Nice thing is it has on/off switch for when it is in the bag. Good Luck.

I got the mx5000 Logitech keyboard/mouse combo. I'm using the MX1000 Laser mouse for the laptop... works perfectly with my W3V internal bluetooth.. I hated dongles too. amazingly enough it has an on/off switch too... I've been using it daily for a week, and still have 2 "lights" left on the mouse. I use the Keyboard for my desktop, along with the included 2.0 EDR dongle, as my desktop didn't have bluetooth support before. I got the mx5000 kit for 150 CAD, and for that price, I got a top of the line bluetooth mouse for my laptop, added bluetooth support to my desktop, and got a really nice keyboard to go along with it. All in all, I pretty good deal.

Interesting. So the MX1000 bluetooth mouse does have an on/off switch. That seems to be something other desktop bluetooth lack and it may make it worth the purchase.

It was really really nice surprise. It completely blows away the mx900 especially in terms of battery life. The on/off switch was really a huge bonus, as was the little charger... the fact that it was not a usb hub, like the Di Novo media desktop, but just a charger for the mouse. I'm actually trying to figure out why logitech doesn't advertise the on/off switch on the website. It's actually a good selling feature that many look for.
The keyboard has an on/off switch too.

    Definately worth the purchase.

How is the performance compared to the mx900 bluetooth mouse. Similiar or much better? I'm trying to decide if i want to just buy the mx900 or spend the extra for the little better mouse and on/off switch.

lots more features, side scrolling, task switch button, and the battery life you can't compare between the two. Add the better aquisition capabilities of laser, the mx900 shouldn't even be a consideration.

If you dont mind me asking what is the side scrolling? Also I believe the mx900 does have a task switch button. Or at least the mx700 did which i believe is just the non bluetooth version of the mx900.

NYBoy, We're talking about a Laser mouse :S

Anyways, Rob, side scrolling is where the scroll wheel on the mouse also tilts side to side, and that enables you to not only scroll up and down, but also scrolls horizontally, you know, for rudder control in a Helo in BF2 for example, or scrolling sideways across a notepad document if wordwrap is disabled... etc. :)

Has anyone considered a logitech mx 610 for use with their laptop. I know its a full size mouse but it supposedly has power saving features and there is even an on off button on the bottom. Not as ideal as bluetooth but it also has a very small usb reciever. -Rob

How'd you get that to pair? I have an MX1000 for my desktop, but don't use it much, and a W3V, but they don't see each other. I thought the MX1000 used Logitech's own RF tech? Please share!

Ah... I saw that other thread, but didn't realize that was you. Also, when you said 'internal BT', I thought you meant with the stock BT stack. Going for the hat-trick here - I also didn't realize that the MX1000 had RF/BT versions.

Between my new W3V and my home improvement projects, I think I'm in information overload....

yeah, that was me... my bluetooth trails and tribulations...
The Stock Tosh Stack pardon the expression but Blows goats :p As per that guide I made, Use the Widcomm stack.. you'll like it a lot better. For the mx1000 mouse in bluetooth, I'm not sure if you can buy it separately in bluetooth, but I do know that Logitech has it as part of the MX5000 Media desktop, and the DiNovo Desktop Laser. To my knowledge, those are the only 2 that come with it.

And don't even get me started on home "improvement"! dreaming of new basement bathroom, cherry hardwood in the livingroom/dining room, new tiles in the laundry room, new carpet upstairs, storm door on the balcony... etc etc etc all the dreams.... none of the time.. :(

I think if you run a search you will find tons of info on this subject. If I remember right, the Logitech v270 and the MS mice have received good reviews. The MS more buttons but I think the tracking and feel (everybody is different) is better received on the Logitech. I have the Kennsington Bluetooth Pocket mouse and love it. Great battery life and tracking. I do wish it had a forward and back button but I use Firefox and have an extension that handles that with no problem.

    Hi moku,

How did the V270 work out for you?

I have a G7 but I don't want to carry around such a big mouse with my new laptop. As it has integrated BT I'm looking for a BT mouse. So far I'm considering some Logitech and Microsoft mice if you could compare the two you have, that would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Peter

Been using the v270 for over 3 months and it works very well. Very light, responsive and good tactile feel to the buttons. Even works quite well during Oblivion. It also comes with a little pouch making it suitable for travelling use.

Thanks for the quick answer BFF. I'm considering this and the Microsoft Wireless Laser 8000 but the latter is pretty expensive... so I'd rather stick to this one... I'm only missing 1-2 side buttons... I'm going to check this out at a local retailer and probably buy it online.
