And, I am a Dell owner, and have been using my MS BT 5000 for well over a year now on my 1530 (and also on my Mini 9, now) and it's working out just fine.
So, I will recommend it for him to use it. It's a great mouse, hooks up fine with the BT connectivity on the Dell's (no software needed), is small and durable, scrolls fast, try it out and if you don't like it..you can always return it!Those are my feelings!
Here is the linky: at amazon!

And, you may also want to consider the Dell BT 5-Button Travel Mouse (in black).. I have this in Cherry Red specifically for my Mini 9 Netbook..It's an awesome Mouse!

Throwing in another vote for the Dell 5-button Bluetooth travel mouse. It's the only BT mouse I could find with 5 buttons, an absolute necessity for me, and it does the job nicely. It hasn't disconnected once since I got it.
And yes, Cin', I'm working on the pictures. -
..Awww I'm glad...Really, I've forgotten since the last few times you told me that! HA~! Oh snap!
Yes, its a awesome mouse!

I have a Studio XPS 1340 and am trying to make my mind up between a Bluetooth mouse e.g. Dell 5-button Bluetooth travel mouse or MS BT 5000, and a NON Bluetooth Logitech VX Nano. My previous experience with Bluetooth devices is that they can be heavy on battery use.
For optimum battery life, I currently have Bluetooth switched off, even when using the WiFi.
Is the reduction in battery life significant when using a Bluetooth mouse?
Thanks

Now, I am using my 9 cell battery mainly at home. And, that battery gives me great power! If I was out and about, and not connected to my *brick*, then I would prob's notice the difference on my battery. But at home, no.

Leaving Bluetooth on or off might make a difference of 10 minutes in your battery life, if that.
-
Thanks all for your replies on the BT mice.
I also have the 9 cell battery at home Cin.
Dell has a 3 week + delivery on their 5 button BT mouse, so today I have ordered the MS BT 5000.

I think/hope you will be happy with it!!Did you order from Amazon?? If, so their shipping is fairly quick!
Keep us posted on how it's working out for you!

I'm in the UK and I would normally order from Amazon, but I actually ordered from eBuyer in the UK. They were selling the retail pack for the same price that Amazon (UK) were selling the OEM product. Some reviewers on Amazon mentioned that they didn't get the carry pouch etc.
Will let you know how it turns out - am expecting it mid-week.

I read a TON of reviews online and it seems that the VX Nano is by far the best notebook mouse on the market even though it isn't Bluetooth. It has a tiny dongle that you can basically leave connected to your computer and not even notice. The mouse also has a compartment on the bottom where you can store the dongle when travelling. I just bought the mouse from newegg.com for $53.

The vx nano is a great mouse. It doesn't feel cheap like other mice and it works flawlessly.

agreed on the vx nano. that thing is sick wit it! has a nice zoom function and one of the nice features is the quick google search right under the scroll. I love that thing. also as stated earlier, it doesn't feel cheap.

There's another 5button Bluetooth mouse I was thinking of getting:
http://www.radtech.us/Products/BT600.aspx
It has a built-in rechargable battery and an included miniUSB port and cable so you can charge it on-the-fly when the power is running low. I got a Targus BT mouse (3 buttons only) as a gift so I'll use that for now. -
Cin,
I received my MS BT 5000 today. Not a promising start. The scroll wheel has the nice click feel to it, but when scrolling down it has a nice subdued 'click' to it, but when scrolling up it makes a very loud ratchety noise. I imagine it's not supposed to be like this. I think it will be an immediate return to eBuyer, who are usually fairly prompt with RMAs these days.
It's a shame,

The downside of bluetooth is that it is subject to interference from nearly everything; 802.11 wireless, cell phones, home cordless phones, microwave ovens, etc, etc. If you are 'gaming' and are serious about a wireless mouse, you would be better served with a mouse that uses it's own, dedicated, non-bluetooth dongle.
-
Yes, return that 5000.
Are you going to replace with another? Or, go with another brand?
Cin -
Hi Cin,
I'll try another one as apart from the scroll wheel problem, I like the mouse.
I am currently trying to figure out, on the 1340, how to individually control the WiFi and the Bluetooth. I want to easily be able to turn On/Off either the WiFi or the Bluetooth, or both. Keyboard shortcuts would be good, or just knowing where to go to operate WiFi and Bluetooth independently. Can you help?
Thanks
Geoff
