I have a dell vostro 1400 and I can't decide if I should buy a bluetooth module and a bluetooth mouse (currently my vostro has no bluetooth, but I can buy the module for it for 15$ on ebay) or if I should just get the VX nano, a wireless usb mouse with a super small receiver (it's been reviewed here: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3858).

I think I want the bluetooth because in the future I might want other bluetooth accessories, like a headset or gamepad. My main concern is -- am I going to lose battery life due to bluetooth even when I'm not using it? I hear its a battery suck, but I'm only going to be using bluetooth devices when the laptop is plugged in. The VX Nano receiver would probably suck up some juice too, but I can unplug it when I'm not using it. I don't know if I can disable bluetooth or not.

Get the bluetooth module and the nano. The scroll wheel is amazing.

I would go for the VX Nano. I've been using the VX Revolution and it is an absolute joy to use with my only gripe being the big wireless receiver.

Can anybody say what uses up more power?

A bluetooth mouse being connected or an RF single sent out form a USB2?

I'll probably get a USB one anyway but not if it uses a lot more power

was torn between a similar decision. I didnt want have to deal constant connection issues I've hearing about with bluetoth. I ended up going with the vx nano.

you should be able to turn the bluetooth on/off...either through hardware or software...

what bluetooth mouse are you looking at? Logitech V470? V470 gets very positive reviews on newegg, amazon and many other websites.... so I'm not sure if connection will still be an issue...

personally, i don't like having 1 of my usb ports occupied all the time, because my laptop only has 2 usb ports, and i don't want to carry a usb hub with me all the time. since your dell vostro 1400 has 4 usb ports, this is probably not an issue.

it seems that you will buy the bluetooth module anyway, whether you will buy a bluetooth mouse or VX nano. check out this recent thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=266733
